Actually, upon examining the picture, that isn't even earth at all, but instead a planet that only somewhat resembles earth. It has green land separated into continents by blue oceans, but the similarities stop there. Maybe these are the only people there, and because of there large size in relation to their planet, the gravitational pull does nothing to hold them on, therefore making it necessary to keep a tight circle of hands in order to keep from floating away, and what we see in the picture is the circle broken, and the detriment of society and life on their planet.

Forget all that.
