it was the art teams way of suggesting ultimate coolness of the team, when in fact they are both super nerds.
there is also a possibility that a 1982 DeLorean was in fact traveling through time, and the movie franchise was made as a cover up. As yet I've not time traveled so I cant give you a definate answer on this one. maybe try pookie?
