My favorite professor at Iowa. Took two of his modern fiction classes. He had us study Joyce's Ullysses by telling us to read the first and last 50 or so pages, and then he explained the rest to us in class, and said that's all we really needed to know about the book--but that if we wanted to "stretch ourselves" we should some day read it from cover to cover.
Also author of the Rambo books and many other mystery/suspense novels.
Taught at the U of Iowa from around 70 to 75 or so before devoting himself complete to writing and moving out west after the death of his young son (to Arizona, I think).
