you can crack it pretty easy (my friend's runs off t-mobile), but if you want the new apps (and not hacker rips offs) I think you may have to go with AT&T.
they are supposed to be downloadable through iTunes. with a cracked phone, you won't be wanting to let it connect through iTunes unless you want it bricked.
