30 years' worth of inflation combined with a dwindled/niche market.
Besides, most LPs are priced fairly, and many are at break-even levels. Shit is incredibly expensive, especially the covers. Any LPs I have released have had a lot of hands-on manual effort put into the covers to save money. Printing full-bleed glossy LP sleeves costs about four times what the actual vinyl production run will cost you. I still don't know how Southern Lord is breaking even on that SunnO))) and Boris 3xLP I bought for $23.00 at retail. Bookbound, glossy pages, full color, printed innersleeves, colored vinyl (which also costs extra, and vinyl production isn't cheap in any case).
A lot of the stuff I want is priced higher because of exchange rates sometimes, but that's something I have no control over. I'll pay for quality.
