this is exactly what I'm talking about.
whether it's because we are a "young" country (compared to all the others) or a trickle-down effect from our television screen culture, we lack the village mentality that many people in many other countries enjoy.
this type of mass-violence rarely happens in small towns (compared to the incidence of crime in more urban areas). everyone in a small town knows everyone else's business and that makes it much harder for weird agents to slip through the cracks.
