noumenal is right...nature vs. nurture?? It's both.

The human mind is incredibly complex and human instinct is incredibly strong. Both of these are paths to all sorts of unique behaviors, homosexuality being one of them. I, as most of you do I'm sure, know some homosexual men, and it is clear that they do not have a choice to be hetero or homo. If an early life experience caused that behavior in them, I don't know. But either way, homosexuality is a lifestyle that is uncommon but not rare. People of any orientation should be treated with respect regarding that orientation.

At the same time, flaunting, whining, and complaining regarding your orientation should be ignored with indifference.
