They usually have a tiny pinhole somewhere so that you can reboot the device. Stick in a needle or broken off guitar string (works for me) into the pinhole and it should start back on normally.
I had an Iriver and it was forever doing that to me. Bad batch or something they said. Other than that, they were fantastic machines. I say 'they' because my girlfriend and I both had one each.
