I believe they’re just below Modest Mouse and Flaming Lips on my “most seen bands” list. Seen them more than I’ve seen Sonic Youth.

But yeah. I get it about going through the motions. Actually, when I saw the Pixies in ‘04, that’s pretty much what they did. It was super disappointing. Not a poorly played show or a bad show, just — meh. Like someone was blasting a 25-song playlist through stadium speakers and four people were just standing there lip-syncing. And I was SO looking forward to some kind of transcendent experience.
