Why do people hate Woody Allen so?

I've enjoyed:

Bananas
Annie Hall
Everything You Want To Know About Sex (But Were Afraid To Ask)
Deconstructing Harry
Match Point
Mighty Aphrodite
Bullets Over Broadway
Scoop
Small Time Crooks

and even The Jade Scorpion

He's great.

some people get scandalized that he married his adoptive dotter.

what hate are you talking about???

??

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 01.15.2007 01:54 AM

I've met quite a few people that just hate his movies- hate the character he plays, hate the comedy, all of it.

Sonic Youth 37 01.15.2007 01:55 AM

I think Woody would say it's Anti-semitism.

Silent Dan Speaks 01.15.2007 02:02 AM

I love Annie Hall, it's probably in my top 10. Sleeper is really good, but I haven't seen anything else. Where do you suppose I go next?

LifeDistortion 01.15.2007 02:02 AM

I don't hate his movies but his critics might say he makes the same movie over and over again, at least the ones he's in which while lately isn't as many as it used to be, the characters and situations at least in his comedies haven't changed all that much for the last 30 years. The ones who love Allen still love him, and the ones who never got into him, even in his early days of "Annie Hall" will never get him.

Sonic Youth 37 01.15.2007 02:10 AM

Annie Hall could quite possibly the greatest romance movie ever.

alteredcourse 01.15.2007 03:55 AM

i think some people cant stand him because hes embodies 'the neurotic, useless male' - an unbearably annoying product of the female revolucion of the 60s thru 80s .

im a fan of woody allen but realistically i would have punched him in the face not too long after meeting him .

PAULYBEE2656 01.15.2007 10:48 AM

i dont hate woody allen at all.....

TheDom 01.15.2007 11:12 AM

My parents call him a pervert, and that is really the only reason they hate him....

James Blonde 01.15.2007 11:54 AM

Odd, James Blonde had just picked one Allen's stories collection to read.

You should listen to one of his stand-up CDs. A lot of the jokes in his movies come from his stand-up.

Destroy Rock 'n' Roll 01.15.2007 03:06 PM

I love his works.

Manhattan is my favourite from his works, a film I find more consistently funny than the awesome Annie Hall, and is a film which would probably make my Top 20 favourite movies ever.
