Film Snobs, Movie Geeks, and Cult Connosiours
I need some films to put in my Netflix Quay. I'm stumped on what I should rent. I've got like 400 films in my reccomendations list, but I just can't decide on what to put on it. I'm thinking of at least one forgien film. Maybe a classic american film. Genre doesn't matter. Perhaps a must see comedy. If its old old, that's fine. I rent a lot of old films. Just throw some ideas at me and we'll see what sticks. Give me a few ideas to mull over. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

-Songs from the Second Floor
-Kikujiro (Perhaps an odd taste, though. Slightly childish, but it's good overall.) |
PCU
have you seen that movie? |
Saw PCU its on Comedy Central and HBO all the time. Two channels I have.
|
None of these are funny...
L'Avventura The Dreamlife of Angels The Sweet Hereafter My Night at Maud's Tess (Polanski) Heaven (Tykwer) I am Curious (Yellow) I am Curious (Blue) The Ice Storm documentary: Hell House (Ratliff) Devil's Playground |
-Das Experiment was alright.
-Following, by Christopher Nolan, is probably my favorite movie. British, but not "foreign." -There's a Battle Royale 2 that's at least worth watching once, if you never want to watch it again. Though I don't know if there's a subbed version. |

I 2nd that. I love PCU. Oh wait you saw it. I 2nd Das Experiment. Good movie. |
PCU is great, anyone ever notice Van Wilder is a direct ripoff
You should rent the Coachella dvd or David Lynch's Short Films... |
Straw Dogs is a must-see, as is City of Lost Children. And, try to see if you can find a Singporean movie titled 'Be With Me'. Heart-wrenching in every sense of the word. It will leave you feeling hollow, then emancipated. :)

City of Lost Children is great. I sort of like Delicatessen better though. The sex/cello/toy making/wall papering/sewing scene is one of my favorite movie scenes ever.
|
A friend of mine brought up City of Lost Children before. Is that the one about the guy who can't feel emotions and has to go into kids' dreams to experience them or something? I couldn't find it anywhere, and don't have Netflix. I really want to see it, though.

Yup, something like that. And the visuals are surreal. Dreamlike and hypnotic. You have to see it for yourself.
|
The Last 3 that I got were Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive, and Annie Hall. They were pretty good.

eternal sunshine of the spotless mind

Repulsion by Roman Polanski is really good.

scientology is good, free masonary though has a very rich smooth texture... sometimes when im in the mood i splurge for mormanism.
get wild at heart, the david lynch film with kevin coster... ITS AMAZING. "this snake skin jacket expresses my individuality and my right to live freely" |
Thanks for all the suggestions. Just to show you guys I'm not completely out of it. "Delicatessen" is supurb, and "City of Lost Childern" is fucking brilliant, love them both. "Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind" is a wonderful film. Probobly get it on DVD at some point, seen it more then twice, first being in theatres. "Be With Me" your description of that movie sounds depressingly intriguing. And I really love Lynch but have yet to see "Wild At Heart", think I might just pick that one. Yes I have seen "Eraserhead" and "Muholland Drive", so don't worry, those are covered. Thanks everyone who posted suggestions.
