Suggest me a good distortion pedal for BASSES

thanks, you sound gurus.

Line 6 DM4?
MXR something?
I want a fat/full sound, not too full of highs (didn't like boss' distortion pedal for basses).

Sonic Youth 37 06.01.2009 04:28 PM

Big Muff. Either Russian version or the Bass Big Muff. $70ish US. It's a fuzz more than OD or distort. But, this is what you want.

a rat or turbo rat is good. dont use a regular guitar pedal as you will lose all the bass and low end and it just sounds light. i think big mufs are ok for bass, i havnt tried one yet but dod pedals worked for me and they are cheap enough.

I don't play bass, but my friend in the band that I've been recording with uses this most often and it sounds good.

Is there anything you don't do nicfit? Art, music, etc. You're a madman! :)

chrome noise tape 06.01.2009 05:53 PM

you play bass nicfit? i've a fender precision, but i'm interesting in a fender mustang bass, i've never played one, what do you think?

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.01.2009 05:55 PM

The bass big muff is fucking rad.

they are not bad, the pickups are ok and they look good. the shorter scale is also pretty cool but they are kinda light on the bass ness if you know what i mean.

chrome noise tape 06.01.2009 06:20 PM

thanx...yes i know mustang has the 30''scale, and the precision i play has the 32'' medium scale but i think that's wont be a problem...i really must try a mustang to feel with my fingers if i like or not.

jon boy 06.01.2009 06:23 PM

they are fairly easy to play and quite nice, i really wanted one a year or so ago but the pickups are kinda flimsy but you can always install some new ones.

chrome noise tape 06.01.2009 06:37 PM

i'll see that... someone wrote this review about the mustang sound "Very punchy tone, with maybe too much high end"???...think the same?

Kloriel 06.01.2009 06:50 PM

how can you post in a thread about bass distortion if you hail from an orbital boulder that has no sound?

rub my tummy

what job boy says, basically.
I'm not a big fan of short(ish) scale basses, except for some nice old gibson models.

Yhe bass big muff sounds like the most viable choice, the annoying thing is that effect pedals costs quite a lot over here (it's like 75-85 Euros in shops).

Did any of you freaks ever try this:

Yeh, I don't smoke.

SC, that Frantone looks sweet, and I bet it does sound sweet too (never had the chance to hear one, I think...), but it's probably quite a lot over my budget...I kinda hoped for a decent effect in the 50-100 euros range, I know it's not much but you know, the worldwide crisis, berlusconi, etc etc. I wanted to try the Bassweet a guy is selling one for 130 euros shipping included...
jon boy, the RAT was one of my first picks, I tried one with a friend's guitar and sounded nice, but I was not totally into the sound it gives, I might try it out with a bass and see if I like it.

The Malekko Barker Assmaster is also very rad. Very expensive though too.
