J G Ballard R.I.P.
No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fuck, I just started reading The Atrocity Exhibition a few weeks ago. This is shit. |
Yeah. Very shit news.
I know that JG was unwell for a long time, but this is still very sad news. RIP to a genuinely visionary talent. :(
It was coming, and he knew it, but that doesn't make the loss for the world any less. One of the all time greatest.
Aw, RIP
I went to the Twombly exhibition last year with a friend. There was a new Richter exhibition. It was pretty good, but we were both surprised that someone like that, someone who's in proper history, in books and that, isn't actually dead. Same thing with Ballard, until today. Never really enjoyed him, shame he's dead, but I was genuinely surprised to find that he's not dead already.
Lame. RIP.
sad news...
We knew it was coming but still no less saddening, I found his last novel to be as urgent and relevant as anything he ever has written. I did get to meet him once at a reading and he signed my copy of High Rise.
His collected short stories are finally coming out in the USA on City Lights I believe. |
fucking Empire of the Sun.
I was trying to tell my minion she should watch the movie but I kept insisting that it was called The Last Emporer. curse my broken circuits...,3.,23t29342jfla.smd 9- |

<I believe this has been in the works for some time, not simply in response to his death-Jim>
With the passing of author J.G. Ballard, who died on Sunday, Norton is preparing to publish a posthumous volume of his work. The house is set to release, in September, The Complete Stories of J.G. Ballard. The volume, edited by Norton's executive editor Robert Weil, is, according to the house, the first complete collection of Ballard's short fiction to be published in the U.S. The collection will contain lauded Ballard short stories like "Belladonna" and "Report from an Obscure Planet," as well as two previously unpublished (in the States) stories, "The Secret Autobiography" and "The Dying the Fall." |

Enjoy libraries and bookstores, please.
(not "against" atsonic's post, just a general advice). |
well yeah, I love books, but people don't always have the money, not to mention I've never seen a ballard book in a local store.
I see tons of them. I also see his books in random record stores that don't usually sell books.
Libraries! You don't need money. Libraries!
DEFINITELY never seen anything at a library. I got CRASH (based-on-the-movie version; the cover is different and such) at a borders once.
Quote:
I don't. I don't ever see Burroughs stuff either. Luckily I have everything he's ever done thanks to amazon... |
Really? I find both Ballard and Burroughs pretty regularly in stores...
