The Sub Pop Record Shop in Seattle Airport
It is pretty wild, have any of you seen it? It is in the main departure lounge past security. They sell a decent selection of Sub Pop's back catalogue, various famous non/post-SubPop Seattle bands (Nirvana, Hendrix and so forth) and also other local indie label stuff, e.g. Up Records, Kill Rock Stars, etc.
Amongst other things they were selling Sun City Girls LPs! In an airport!!! I didn't have enough money left from my trip for a spending spree but I did snag a tape compilation of Kill Rock Stars singles. Not only were they selling SCGs but they were selling a variety of tapes!!! I don't know how long it has been there but I hope to God there are enough people like us passing through that airport to make that shop permanently viable. |
does Up Records still exist?

Ahhh yeah! I was there last September. Neat shop. Bought my brother a PJ poster...they had an exhibit on PJ's posters, it was really cool. I love the fact that there was a record shop in the airport.

I don't know, but either it does or rights to their stuff has been bought and things have been repressed |
I wonder if people will make a trip to the airport just to go get records.

Meh. Go to Everyday or Easy Street instead. Or Sonic Boom. They're not what they once were, but Seattle's record stores are some of the best.

I don't think so. The website hasn't been updated since the 2000s. The last release came out in 2006. One of the founders died. I'm pretty sure it's gone. |
