Broadband question
Is a 2Mb broadband connection sufficient for downloading music and video, or should I pay the extra for 8Mb?
|
i dont know. depends how much more and if its worth it, which it isnt. p>

What's your attitude towards downloading,first? |

You don't need to pay the extra. |
I'm not a serial downloader, or at least not yet. I want broadband because I can't even watch a video on YouTube or listen to streamed music on my dial-up modem, and I'd like to be able to do that, but once I have it I figure I may as well make sure I can put it to good us, e.g. being able to download peoples' mixes, etc.
The package that gives 2Mb is £15 a month (there are a few extras on top of just the broadband connection), the 8Mb one is £26 a month (it has a few more extras, but they're not things I particularly want). |
We pay £8.50 a month for 2MB, and it's fine. Absolutely no problems. It was fine even on the old computer, but on this new one things whizz along very nicely indeed.

What provider do you use, Hip?
|
Go for the 2Mb because you strike me as someone who'd rather buy the record instead of buying the mp3.That would still allow you to download mixes, watch youtube stuff and even download hard to find or out of print/unreleased music rather than stuff that is possible to fork out money for.

ntl, which is becoming Virgin. We were promised that price would not increase as long as we stayed as customers. I hop Virgin are leally/morally obliged to stick to that deal. We have Virgin mobiles too, so we're supposed to be getting some kind of offer or discount on everything at some stage. I think we'd got it that cheap because we'd had tv and telephone with them for a while. They kept sending us cheaper and cheaper offers, and the day I bought the old laptop from a friend the £8.50 offer came, which was convenient. |
How has ntl's customer service been? They used to have a terrible reputation, I think.
|
I have always been with Virgin with my mobile phone and i have never had a problem. They have the best customer care service i've encountered so far with any company.

You have to wait for ages sometimes when you telephone, but once you're through they are OK, and to be honest nothing has ever gone wrong (which is a good point). And now that they're becoming Virgin it might get better. |
In case it's of any relevance, I'm thinking of going with Sky, who give two TV channel packages + free evening and weekend phone calls + 2Mb broadband (with a 2GB monthly usage allowance) for £15 a month + the cost of the BT line rental.
|
999 channels but there is never anything on. well apart from repeats. you just want it for channel 906 dont you?
|
Oh c'mon,at least you can watch C.S.I. on 3 different channels at the same time!
|
Hey, if all I wanted was crap TV I'd have gone straight for the 8Mb broadband + 6 TV channel packages option!
|
2GB monthly is not that much in my opinion... I don't have broadband still, but I want to be able to dl as much as I want with no restrictions. I mean, just looking at archive.org there are soooo many things that I like to check out, and some are quite MBs heavy... please don't pay attention to this post if I misinterpreted the "with a 2GB monthly usage allowance" bit.

I don't know how fast my connection is, but 14.99 a month for superfast AOL broadband is pretty good. Did I mention the free optional wi-fi? Don't delay- subscribe to AOL today!
I feel dirty. |
Nah, you just AIM to please :) !
|
Haha. Your AOL jokes are tight.
