I gave in a bought a pair of boots

Wearing Converse shoes in the winter three years in a row has really fucked two of my toes around. It hardly cold at all right now (-7) and my toes are already itchy and I refuse to get frost bite again. No way.
So, I bought a pair of combat boots at the Salvation Army today for $9 haha(they're hardly worn at all) I'm looking forward to falling on my ass due to the zero grip they have.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 12.04.2006 08:12 PM

now that i think about it, that would have the extra benefit that you could leave a nasty imprint on someone's chest, if need arose...

EMMAh 12.04.2006 08:34 PM

Cantankerous 12.04.2006 09:00 PM

I traded my shoes for my friends cons for a while...and I had to bear through that whole freezing rain day that we had with them. Rideau was flooded and my feet were soaked, so I got back my real shoes. Ugh I hate this cold weather, but at least it's better than it being warm due to greenhouse gasses.

king_buzzo 12.05.2006 04:22 AM

i just bought new converse a while ago, not chucks some other

heavium 12.05.2006 04:33 AM

i got me a pair of black suede converses with those tweed folds, they're warm enuff for winter, over here anyway..never 'extremely cold', tho i would like to see some snow..heh

screamingskull 12.05.2006 06:47 AM

ive swapped my dirty old white converse for black fake leather or Vegetarian Boots. ha ha ha I think converse have zero grip, i once went to a gallery in london and it had been raining and there were marble floors everywhere, i slipped over 4 times in my converse.

Iain 12.05.2006 06:58 AM

I just got a pair of red leather converse Jack Purcells. They have even less grip than allstars I think. But they are leather so they are a bit more waterproof.

jon boy 12.05.2006 03:58 PM

i cant wear all stars in winter anymore, especially in berlin where its just too damn cold and has proper snow.

when it snows i have boots. at the moment i have vans, my first ones ever.

gmku 12.05.2006 04:31 PM

When I first read the name of this thread, I thought it said "boobs" not "boots."

ondskan 12.05.2006 04:35 PM

Converse works just fine in winter. And don't even think about replying "duuh, you have never felt the real, cold winter... noob". I live in fuckin' north Sweden, this is like a suburb to Siberia.
Stop beeing such pussies and stick to your Converse.

gmku 12.05.2006 04:39 PM

But then the frostbite get to our little toesies and make them little toesie go black and fall off! You wouldn't want that to happen, now, would you?

Savage Clone 12.05.2006 04:39 PM

I wear boots pretty much all the time.

Savage Clone 12.05.2006 04:42 PM

They also go well with a black hoodie.
I don't wear the cape on my bicycle.

Well... er... no, of course not. But.. gah, i'm lost. Go buy yourselves some boots and a black cape, you gothfreaks. I'll be wearing my Converse even when the temperature goes around -22 celsius.

I hope someone is around to pick up your toes.

Savage Clone 12.05.2006 04:58 PM

I've done a couple of Minnesota winters in Converse.
That sucked bigtime.
Wet, frozen feet all day every day? Plus the slipping!
They're OK for summer, but hardly suitable for snow and not cool-looking enough to suffer for.

Hey, frost bite fucking sucks. Last year my toes were purple it was so bad.

These are my boooots. I dunno, pretty good for nine bucks.

EMMAh 12.05.2006 05:03 PM

I dunno what everyone is talking about, Converse have pretty good grip. Or maybe I just have really good balance.

Savage Clone 12.05.2006 05:03 PM

Those are good utilitarian boots that still look pretty tough.
I'd say you got a good deal.

And have you ever pushed a car out of a snowbank in Converse?
That sucks!

Danny Himself 12.05.2006 05:04 PM

You could kill someone with those beetlecrushers, Emma. Nice.

They're killing me hahah. I hate breaking in shoes

Danny Himself 12.05.2006 05:12 PM

Get someone to break them in for you.

EMMAh 12.05.2006 05:16 PM

Fuck that. These boots are going to fit ME like a glove and I'm going to wear them until they can't possibly be worn any longer haha.
No bastards are going to steel my booties.

gmku 12.05.2006 05:16 PM

Nice, Emmah.

Savage Clone 12.05.2006 05:17 PM

Breaking in boots sucks.
Part of the reason I love my current pair so much is the fact that they were comfortable pretty much immediately.

Thanks :D
My favorite pair of shoes have a hole the size of my fist in them, so they're in a bag with fixing supplies waiting to be mended. Someday I'll get around to it. I told my mom that if she threw them out I would go to the dump and get them back, so she knows not to touch.

Take a knife and score the bottom. Might give them some grip.

another (perhaps costlier but more effective) solution would be to take it to a shoe repair shop & see if they could replace the sole & for how much-- or at least attach something
