Tickerwelly 09.25.2006 08:57 PM

Raw onions. That texture is alien and wrong.

Meat

Cheese
Olives
Certain types of mushrooms
Apple Juice

I'm a fan of most everything else.

-All meat (e.g. any dead animal). If you avoid red meat and poultry but consume fish/seafood that's your prerogative, but please don't refer to yourself as a fucking vegetarian, ok? This only causes confusion among the carnivores as to what a vegetarian really is.

-Gelatin. See item above.

-I consume dairy products, but the taste of plain milk makes me gag, and I've been pouring soymilk over my cereal for over five years now.

-Cole slaw. Don't know why, but I've always been disturbed by it.

-Mashed potatoes. I neverliked them as a kid. I can't say that i never eat them though, because it actually tastes good on a pizza.

-Sweet pickles. I've always preferred dill pickles.

-I may be ok with pickled cucumbers as noted above, but most other pickled vegetables are disgusting.

-Pecan pie. It made me sick once at age five and I never touched it again.

-Any type of cream-based soup (these are often times not veggie-friendly anyway).

-Lefse (in American English, pronounced "LEF-suh"). Some freakish potato flatbread that people will spread butter over and then roll up. Brought over from Scandinavia to Minnesota, it is one of those things that makes me feel fucking embarrassed to be a Minnesotan. It seems to be more popular with the older generations, so maybe its popularity will die out when they die.

-Any type of pot pie. Pies are meant to be sweet, and for dessert. Why the hell would someone use this pastry and fill it with vegetables or meats?

-The Kraft brand of boxed macaroni and cheese. I was terrified of it as a child and refused to try it, perhaps because of the freaky orange color of the "cheese" that came with it. I never got around to trying any type of boxed pasta-and-cheese product until age 15 or 16; it turns out Annie's brand shells and cheese (the cheese powder is white cheddar, so it doesn't creep me out) is pretty decent.

-Processed sliced American Cheese.

-Dehydrated parmesan cheese in a can (The Kraft brand in the green can is most common). Real parmesan cheese, whether it be shredded or a whole wedge, is widely available in pretty much all grocery stores now, so I have no clue why the parmesan-powder-in-a-can is still popular.

-Alfredo sauce, or any type of cheese-based or cream-based pasta sauce. I like my pasta with tomato-based sauces, thank you very much. If I want cheese, I'll fucking sprinkle it on top, ok?

-Soft drinks, a.k.a. pop (this is the term we use here), a.k.a soda, a.k.a. sodapop. Stopped drinking this shit about 4 or 5 years ago. Mostly drink water now.

-Apparently there are people out there that eat olives plain. Why?? Even when they are sliced and thrown on a pizza, I don't particularly care for them (especially black olives).

can't think of anything else.

Toilet & Bowels 09.25.2006 10:52 PM

people who drink soy milk have no souls. true fact.

HaydenAsche 09.25.2006 10:55 PM

Fuck off, Toilette.

Although, I suppose I'm exempt from that being that I don't 'drink' soy milk plain. I put it in lattes or other drinks when I'm feeling like a fairy and not drinking black coffee. Fuck drinking anything other than coffee and water.

well, let me expand it to people who consume soy milk in any way shape or form. turns out that soy milk is really bad for your health too.

Everyneurotic 09.25.2006 10:59 PM

i've learnt not to say never as i tried some stuff i'm surprise i did to various results.

still, i hate eggs, nothing could gross me more, i like cakes and baked goods or some other things that involve eggs in it's preparation but eggs as standalone or main food, no thanks. the smell of eggs makes my stomach turn.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 09.25.2006 11:00 PM

coca cola/pepsi/etc.

and people who are against coca cola are obviously dead inside and actually bad people.

What you really mean is how can someone like mushrooms.

I don't like most fruit or vegtables beyond carrots, green peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, onions (raw or cooked), celery, bananas, watermelon, or oranges.

I don't like pork or steak, but I'll eat them if that's what's being served.

I won't eat seafood, unless it's tuna, shrimp, or Manhattan clam cowder or breaded clam strips...even then, I'd rather have something else.

As you can probably guess, I have a rather lean build.

atari 2600 09.26.2006 12:10 AM

speed kills

haha

besides, it's a dirty high.

Reading this thread leaves me wondering what the fuck some of you do eat.
I suppose I could find out.

Although I've acquired a taste for most veggies that I didn't like as a kid (but still ate), I do avoid brussel sprouts. I buy a fresh head of lettuce, a couple of tomatoes and an onion every week at the grocery store and use them for salads, on sandwiches, for huevos rancheros and on burritos. Every other week I buy a bag of carrots and a bag of celery, some spinach or cucumber and some type of fruit which is usually grapefruit or oranges, sometimes bananas. About once a month, I buy squash, a red pepper, yellow pepper, zucchini or whatever for stir frys or casseroles. I get potatoes once every couple of months or so. I should get brussel sprouts or broccoli more because they are so great for you; I rarely eat either. I like mushrooms, but it's been a long time since I bought them.

I can't imagine living without seafood because I love it all. My dish lately has been fried salmon over brown rice with fresh tomato, whatever I have on hand stir-fried, and salsa on top. While it's cooking, I'll peel off the skin and fry it alongside. It's great to roll up rice in the skin and add some diced bit of veggies to it. It tastes like sushi, only better. Salmon used to be one of the fishes that I generally ate less of, but lately I've gone to it.
I bake chicken, I fry it, I buy it from the deli in slices or as a whole rotisserie bird at a time, I eat more chicken any man ever seen...well, not that much.
I've gotta have a steak at least once every couple of weeks. I go for the rib eyes and top loins mostly. It's been forever since I bought any ground beef, chicken or turkey.

I get whole milk and I should buy the expensive soy because it doesn't have the hormones. Although, I only get milk when I'm buying cereal, which is only about once a month. I alternate between the milk & cereal, and the dishes with cheese which I generally prefer. I like cobblestone mills cinnamon raisin bagels and cream cheese. I buy cobblestone mills bread for sandwiches or french toast. I was on a martin's potato bread kick last year for a while. I haven't bought peanut butter or jelly in probably a year. If I get peanuts, which isn't often, I get a bag or a vaccum-packed can of them.

I haven't been big on pasta lately, but I'll return to it in a few months probably when I'm getting tired of sandwiches. I only go for the tomato-based sauces.

I eat dill pickles. I like eggs prepared in a variety of ways, and eat them at least once every week. I like mustard, all kinds. I eat mayonnaise in egg or tuna salad or a bit on a sliced chicken sandwich.

I very rarely eat frozen foods, unless it's a frozen DiGiorno or Freschetta pizza. I get one or two of those every other week.

Commenting on EricsTrip's post, I don't eat sweet pickles either. When I get relish which is maybe once a year, I get dill relish. I'm not big on cole slaw unless it's served to me, but I will boil cabbage. I don't buy gelatin or boxed mac 'n cheese or any of those rice or pasta boxed mixes. Every once in a blue moon I'll get a boxed mix for cold pasta salad. I buy rice raw in a bag. I don't buy canned soup or canned vegetables really. Just about the only thing that I can think of that I buy in a can is tuna fish which I get once every two or three weeks. I get beans raw in a bag. I rarely have a soft drink or fast food. I mostly drink water and buy ozonated spring water in five gallon containers for a water cooler I have. The guy comes every couple of weeks to restock me. I should just buy my own ozonator. I sometimes have orange, grape or apple juice or a powdered breakfast drink. I drink alcohol, mainly beer, but not every single day.

Define "food-fascist". I'm not exactly on some strict all-health-food diet or anything. Nor am I into forcing my dietary habits on anyone else around me; vegetarians that constantly berate carnivorous people usually keep people away from vegetarianism more than anything. I'm probably more of a "picky eater" than anything.

Phlegmscope 09.26.2006 01:20 AM

I'm not into boiled vegetables at all. They're just wrong, terribly terribly wrong.
On the other hand I do like them while they're fresh and uncooked.

Well, although I don't buy boxed mac 'n cheese either, or any boxed mixes for that matter (except for the occasional one for cold pasta salad), I think it's odd that he writes that he didn't eat mac 'n cheese as a kid simply because most kids love that stuff. I certainly ate it as a child.

I have some similarities with what EricsTrip wrote, although I wouldn't want to go without seafood, chicken and steak myself. His mashed potatoes on pizza suggestion is a bit strange considering what he wrote about alfredo sauce (which I happen to agree with), because it's the same principle at work. It makes one wonder why he wouldn't load a baked potato or mashed potatoes with cheese and toppings instead of eating mashed potatoes on the pizza.
