Holy shit. The World Looks Red was played tonight!!!
Wow, so this was pretty much the best night of my life. It started with me getting to Kool Haus around 4:15, and sitting for a bit. Eventually I met up with Pax from the board as well as his friend Chris, who were awesome. We were maybe 10th in line, and then we saw Lee arriving, so we went and I got my Washing Machine CD signed, although he seemed to be a bit rushed, he was really nice. As for the show..
The setlist started off with: TEEN AGE RIOT (First time this tour) Reena Incinerate the rest of the main set are going to be out of order: from pre-RR: Eric's Trip Catholic Block maybe one other old one I can't remember from RR: Do You Believe In Rapture What A Waste Jams Run Free Rats Turquoise Boy The Neutral Pink Steam and then they closed the main set with Or Encore 1: The Neutral THE WORLD LOOKS RED!!!!!!!!! Encore 2: Sleepin' Around Shaking Hell After the first encore, Lee called it one of the best shows he had done all summer. I was second row, right between Kim and Lee, and when I get back to my place tomorrow night, I'll post all the pictures that Pax took throughout the show. The highlights for me were Eric's Trip, Catholic Block , Teen Age Riot (I heard them soundchecking it, but I was still really surprised to hear it, Lee and Thurston went nuts with their guitars in a little noise jam at the end), Jams Run Free (Kim is really good on this song live), and THE WORLD LOOKS RED, of course. For about 30 seconds I didn't recognize it, since I figured there was no chance in hell it would be played. But sure enough... Wow, just an amazing show. Afterwards, me and Pax and Chris went and waited around by the tour bus with a whole lot of people. The security said they wouldn't be out for about an hour and a half, but we stuck around. Then they said the band had left, and then there were about 15 people left. We waited about another 20 minutes, and sure enough, Lee came out with some friends of his, and told us that he'd be back in a few minutes. After his friends left, he came over and talked to all of us, he was such a nice guy! He spoke again of how this was one of his favourite concerts all summer, and about how he loved the setlist and how they played stuff that hasn't been played yet this tour (Teen Age Riot and World Looks Red). He said it's been about 15 years since the last performance of World Looks Red! I got a picture with him, which I'll be sure to post tomorrow. So overall, this was the best concert I've seen, and one of, if not the best night of my life. I can't wait til I see them with Flaming Lips and Ween on September 1, but I'm not sure wheather they could top this show. I might most a bigger review tomorrow, but right now I can't be bothered. Thank you Sonic Youth for being fucking incredible. :D:D:D:D |
Cool shit.

Did they play it for you CL?
|
Oh, I'm sure it was for Chris, haha. I hope they play Skip Tracer, Stones, or Sunday at the Syracuse show (wow, lots of S's), since they soundchecked them the other day. :D

Yep, it was mindblowing, eh, Adult-Daypass? How close were you? Did you meet Lee or anyone else?
|
I met a guy who got pack of cigs autographed and thought that thurston's name was "thruston" FUCKING CUNT
|
But the important question is, did you meet Lee, Thurston, Kim, or Steve?
|
Did this get recorded by anyone? I sure hope so. World Looks Red is one of my favorite songs. I would love to hear it.

Yeah I just got home from the show and am still blown away!
|
Lee was out by the bus walkin around for a while. I saw Mark and Steve go out for something but didn't catch up with them...

Haha, yup, that was me. I had been wondering wheather you were on the board, but after asking someone else I was talking to in line, and them saying no and looking at me like I was crazy, I didn't bother to ask you. Damn amazing show, eh? |
Thats cool. The SY concert I went to recently was the best night of my life.
|
That was a freakin' amazing show!!! World Looks Red!!! Who'd of thought? Opening with Teenage Riot?? What a show...what a show...even got to laugh at a few kids in front of me who nearly got kicked out for smoking a joint, FRONT ROW, between the two bands, AND while all the lights were on. Many chuckles at their expense

Yeah man, I remember seeing you out there. I was the kid with the dark glasses, and the button up blue shirt standing with the really tall dude in the Tool t-shirt. |
yea i remember you.... that security guard told the us they left but we stuck around and it payed off.
|
Sure did!
|
thanks for review!
man, such a great setlist+you have a chance to meet lee and talk to him actually! i believe that it was one of yr. best nights then! looking forward yr. pics you took. |
i wanted so bad to stick around and get something signed, but my ride had to work at seven in the morning and we had a four hour drive to get home.. that sucked, but the show was fucking amazing. i was getting slightly annoyed by the dude that kept trying to crowd surf, and was basically just kicking people in the head, and the guy beside me was smoking the whole time.. sick smell.
i was/am so proud, 'cos i was the one that started the chant for trhe second encore! woo! next tour i have already determined i wil be hanging around for autographs/meeting. you lucky dudes. |
and mush, in case you were looking for me at all, i arrived super late, and met up with some friends of mine i remembered were going, and got into tline with them.
|
Haha, funny how it turned out I was in front of you in the merch line, eh Krack?
And Reverb, I was near Pax and his friend, I probably saw you around. And damn straight, did it ever pay off :D |
Was a cool show, but not the best i've seen them do though i've only seen them twice before... world looks red was a definite highlight with thurston pulling the mic and stand down and kneeling nearly the whole time doing vocals and guitar scraping with a metal slide during that song. the band seemed happy not as energetic as i saw them during the nurse tour or back in 1999 in nyc... though it was s till a cool nite, my girlfriend got alot of good pics on her digital cam, and a few short video clisp also (i'll try to post some in the next couple of days)
btw, i was wearing a red magik markers t-shirt... probably nobody noticed. stood about 3 rows from the front on thurston's side of the stage w/ the aroma of weed everywhere and witnessign agirl fall over and passing out (from either being way stoned, drunk or just too fucked up on something else). fun times in toronto just got back tonite, scored an original copy of albert ayler's prophecy LP on esp at 2nd Vinyl store, on some side street off of queen st. plus going to Soundscapes though i skipped out on Rotate This (can't spend alot of cash on vinyl anymore) and getting dim sum in chinatown on dundas st. |
