The Elephant Man
okay from my give me a good movie to rent thread i chose "the elephant man." thank you to whoever suggested it, i don't remember who did. anyway it was good, but i have to say that if i was ever in a room alone with him i would be terrified and scared. i feel so bad for saying that cause in the movie they make him out to be a nice gentle person that would never hurt anybody, and even while knowing that i still would not want to be around him. am i evil for feeling this way? i feel really bad but i can't help it. i'm not a shallow person, but i can get over the way he looked.
|
Yes very evil. I say whip yourself every night this this week for thinking that way.
|
it was me & that movie is great. it's in my top twenty or so. someone else remarked that they didn't like it (in the last thread) & i cannot see how.
|
I want to see this movie, but it`s hard to find. Well, my GF once bought it off ebay, but it never arrived.. and the videostores arround don`t have it.

try the library. that's where i got my copy.

Yeah, that one is really great. It's good when a movie, a piece of music, or art really makes you feel something, this movie was one of those.
|
I saw it once probably over 20 years ago, and will probably never see it again....Even though David Lynch is one of my all-time favorite directors. I didn't like having to endure watching all the mockery and cruelty.

i momentarily thought this thread might be about this entertaining young chap
![]() but i think in 4 years of posting on this board i've never seen a thread about dancehall |

funny, last night I had a dream that an old man was nearly killed by a deformed guy, who looked just like the Elephant man, because of some revenge plot. Except he was deformed because he was left in a marsh.
very fucked up dream |

No. Nice try at pissing me off--actually, not a good try at all...totally predictable, unintelligent--3rd grade level. You get an F. Piss off and go suck Hayden. |

You pretty much win I guess. I mean "piss off and go suck Hayden" is obviously a 7th grade level insult. Well done. |
Bastian wins for the coolest avatar.

ah, max, with his chainsaw out again... Think of this...the movie not only confronts the audience by its title character being deformed; there's also the scene where Mr. Merrick is caught masturbating by the nurse. Several other scenes also highlight the basic creatureliness of human nature, and several, in turn, show the nobility and long-suffering of human character as testimony to the power of the will. If that's not cimema designed to engage & challenge the viewer, then, I'm sorry, I don't know what is. Cameron Crowe tried to utilize some of these elements & spice it up with some action & some stars with Vanilla Sky. It's an okay movie, but of course that one is a train wreck compared to the artistic qualities of David Lynch's The Elephant Man. The movie (& play) ??? reportedly made Michael Jackson want to buy Merrick's remains. hee hee hee Concerning dancehall, I've written about Beenie Man a couple of times, but yeah, not much discussion. he probably wasn't the easiest chap to hang out with... ![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Merrick |
what?!!?! i didn't see the part where he was caught masturbating....or did i miss it? when did that happen?
|

I didn't notice that either, but I remember that part, but I'm not sure he was masturbating. |
If he was masturbating, was he using his good hand. If he used his other one it would probably crush his penis.

shush atari, do you really remember me as my older self? that's weird. how do you do??? i'm glad to see you're still active down here man, the SY board withouth you wouldn't be the same... |
Elephantitis would be terrible to have. In fact, I was on the same medication that they use to treat people with elephantitis. The Elephant Man introduced me to the cruelty of society since I was only 7 or 8 years old when I saw it.
|
What would you people do if you had a child who had elephantitis?
If I was around when Merrick was, I would be his friend. |
