Mark Ibold Playing on New Record?
Is this true? Has anyone heard? I don't believe he's actually recorded with them up to this point.
|
i think this was confirmed somewhere not too long ago.
|
|
no
this is not Mark Ibold it's Fonz! |
he's is a guest in one track.
|
but is he still gonna play live with them?
frankly i don't see the point but whatever. |
why not?
he played at the end of last year's tour with them, and kim can't hold her bass in every songs. |
well, not to sound disrespectful, but she played the whole DAYDREAM NATION album in front of my very eyes, couple of meters away. Chicago 2007. The Gibson thunderbird bass. Heavy as hell, ripping thru riffs. She held it perfectly, and that was a long fucking gig man.
I think they'd do better without a 5th member at this point. live especially. |
He is playing bass on the new album. In the last few shows of 2008, she began wearing a glove, which I imagine was to help her with her tendinitis. At my Daydream gig (NY), she put down the thunderbird before Eliminator Jr, probably because it was getting to be a burden, so I'm guessing Mark is a big help to her.
|
but at the shows with ibold and her playing at same time, it was toooo much bass. nothing ruins sound like too much fucking bass.
|
I get the impression that they (esp. SS) absolutely love having Mark Ibold around, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him keeping on touring with them.

Nothing ruins sounds as a bad PA/acoustic in a venue. I don't think they have a bad sound man e heh he. When I saw them with mark on stage the sound was great and they had lots of fun. Max, I see what you mean, but playing a few "special" gigs isn't as consuming as a full tour. I'd be glad to hear Kim is feeling well enough to pull off a full tour with no need for a "backup" (I hope this won't be misinterpreted) but I think having Mark on stage is just plain good for everyone. He is happy, they're happy to play with him, IF Kim has some probelms he can help. It's a win-win situation imo. Aaaah, I remember there were people complaining even about Jimbo playin' live with them.... BLASPHEMY!!! |
jim was the shit.
|
i think they laid down some tracks of him playing slap bass with his big fucking cock.

possibily could help, but the studded glove is a signature look in the Rodarte collection she has been wearing lately ![]() i wish Mark would have been involved more witht new record, mostly cause i love it when Kim plays guitar, she brings an excellent dimension as the 3rd guitarist like on songs such as New Hampshire for example |
I wanna hear some sonic skronk

I really wish they'd add Mark as a fifth member. It'd be cool to have Kim playing guitar and Mark playing bass. I love the albums where Kim was playing guitar more. ATL ruled for example. He should have played on the entire album.

yeye good point. |
The guitar would also probably be easier on Kim.

There is some kind of talking about a sonic youth#7 or something in the sensational fix book. and there ibold is a member of the band. but i'll look it up later for sure.
|
ibold is listed as a current band member on wikipedia. but then again, it's wikipedia.
im surprised that at kim's age, she's still holding down the bass |
I'm really not bothered at all. Mark was the bass player of one of my favorite bands and now he plays occasional bass with my favourite band. These days i'm watching some DVD live shows from Nurse and RR tours and it really doesn't bother to have JIm or Mark on stage . Kim is more free to do whatever she wants. There's this show where she teases the audience on Kool thing which is really nice. Jim playing P-funk bass to that is really interesting; and so forth...
and I think i kind of agree to the Kim playing third guitar thing. It adds a lot of atmosphere on ATL and some Nurse tracks although she mainly strums randomly on open chords.... there. |

You misunterstood me. There is some kind of overview about the former band members. And I guess there is said that the current members are ThurstonKimLeeSteve + Ibold. I'll look it up later. :) |
oh yeah sure

hope you§re being sarcastic. he ruled big time. |

this is exactly what I meant. |
I imagine that the band has collaborated with Mark Ibold in some capacity on the new record since he is now a fully integrated member of the band

Funny how "shit" and "the shit" have opposite meanings! English is truly a messed up language. |
i like ripping off my pubes and pretending they're nose hair, too!

yeah, I thought the same! |
well i see everyone's point but
1) the glove pictured is clearly NOT a way to help with tendinitis 2) Jim was an official member - therefore it all made MORE sense IMHO Jim was a great addition to the line up and the live situations really benefitted a lot from his playing... Mark only played bass last time around, I wish he could screw up around with noise more. I'm not questioning the way they're doing things, it's just that seeing them onstage with the 4-core-members-line up really made my day and nothing could beat the way they sounded AND looked... you know what I mean. I'm sure Mark is a great guy nonetheless and I really don't wanna be disrespectful. It's more of a ...aesthethic kinda thing at this point for me. But if he's really gonna be with them from now onwards they should make him appear in the line up credits on the new CD. I think. |
