Bands that were never good, then became awful, then became complete shit
anyone?
|
DEVO rules... better than Sonic Youth.
|
OK, I hope yr joking. DEVO is incredible.
|
Quote:
yeah, bad call. everything they did was great. perfect band. more consitent than, and possibly (probably?) better than sonic youth. how about the white stripes? bad, fucking bad, and then embarassingly fucking bad. |
Ah, one of these 'let's antagonise people' thread, they're always fun.
Rolling Stones! Dinosaur Jr! The Pixies! Pavement! Etc. |
I'm seconding Devo. Gash beyond redemption.
|
At least White Stripes did some Beefheart covers (then again, didn't Black Keys or Black Lips or whatever the fuck do one too?). But other than that, yeah they sucked.
But yeah, Glice, while I do enjoy a few assorted Dinosaur Jr. songs from "Bug" and "Living", I never thought they were that good. Then, they definitely got worse and worse... Unfortunately, anyone who seriously says "Devo" is silly beyond words. It'd be very difficult for me to actually sit here and name more than 30 bands that wrote songs as good as "buttered Beauties" and "Mongoloid" and "Triumph of the Will"... |
Fucking nuts.
|

i cant sit here and think of one band that debuted with a record as perfect as q: are we not men |

What's the Devo album most likely to change my mind? I've been mystified by any appreciation for them for years and years. |
Yeah, those songs were so perfect; I love the minimal, clean, somewhat surfy guitars mixed with low-tech and catchy keyboard lines. Mindbogglingly perfect songs on that one.
"Freedom of Choice" is also so good that it's unbelievable. |
Glice, get Q: Are We Not Men A: We Are Devo.
It's brilliant... |
DEVO is amazing and brilliant. A lot of you are sounding like idiots right now. FREEDOM OF CHOICE, ARE WE NOT MEN, NEW TRADITIONALISTS, etc etc. Insane.
And I'd say the White Stripes' first 2 albums were good, and that WHITE BLOOD CELLS was rather solid. They still knock out a handful of good tunes these days on each record, so I wouldnt catagorize that as awful. |

Downloading... |
atsonic, do you have E-Z LISTENING? So awesome!
|
![]() This band is just complete fucking shit. |
Haha, yeah, I heard it a while back and appreciated it. More bands should do that.
I love Hardcore Devo vol. 1 and vol. 2... some crazy shit on those. |
Good call, slavo.
|
Really, my answer to this thread should be .... "most bands."
|
Has anyone heard the new Keane single? Absolutely preposterously shit.
|
HARDCORE DEVOs are great... "37" son!

haha, no fucking kidding. i had a dream one about giving conor oberst a merciless tony soprano-esque beating, no joke. |
he deserves it
(now I hope Danny Himself won't take the first plane from Liverpool and come beat me down with a baseball hat) |
To tell you the truth, I thought Bright Eyes was some kind of joke/novelty band when I first heard them.
|
I love how this thread has become a wank-off-to-devo thread
|
Me too. I wish more threads celebrated great bands.
|
haha

Toad the Wet Sprocket.
a hell of a name for a band. |
crypto what the hell is that picture??? It's horrifying.
|
Quote:
it really freaks me out everytime I see it since you upload it |
I'm assuming it's from a movie. I'd like to know which one.
|
Quote:
I agree. its horrifying. it suggests disemboweling |
![]() The scene takes place in a bathroom. |

That album has some really good songs on it. It may be incredibly over rated but that cd justifies that they were not always shit. Magik Markers Dinosaur Jr. |
Quote:
but what the fuck are those guys doing with the poor girl, and what is that creepy-really-hairy-between-the-legs creature which cant believe what its seeing thing? |

I once saw Bright Eyes and was blown away. This would've been about 2001 or so. I've heard very little since, but I was most impressed with that one show. |
