What's your favorite whiskey?

:Edit: Fuck, wrong forum. I'm so used to being in Non-Sonics. :Edit:

I'm pretty new to whiskey. I've tried a few different whiskeys, but I don't know too much. I got a bunch of old 1/10th pint bottles, mostly of scotches, and I've been trying them one by one. Johnny Walker is good, Chivas Regal is good, J+B's is good. There are slight differences, and I think the J+B's might be the best one, but they all sort of taste the same to me.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but there isn't as much variation from one whiskey to another as there is with beer, is there? The main difference seems to be between bad whiskey and good whiskey. I've noticed the same with vodka.

pbradley 04.08.2008 02:26 PM

Jameson, to my extent of whiskey knowledge.

tesla69 04.08.2008 02:49 PM

I drink Early Times because that was Charles Willeford's favorite. but I rarely drink whiskey, it really makes me crazy. Ken Bruen's characters are always drinking Jamesons.

I'd like to learn more about single malts etc. It seems so civilized.

nature scene 04.08.2008 02:52 PM

I like Jack and Crown.

Trasher02 04.08.2008 02:53 PM

I'm quite the fan of Jameson but I can enjoy a J&B too.

alteredcourse 04.08.2008 02:53 PM

Bourbon tastes different from Rye . Bourbon is....smoother, sweeter, and warmer . Rye is abrasive as fuck . And sour !

I dont know about those scotch whiskeys (like jamesons ). I hated scotch whenever I've tried it so I havent bothered .

Wild Turkey, a bourbon , is my favorite.

And Jameson's is Irish whiskey, not scotch.

Pookie 04.08.2008 02:57 PM

No more pedantry from me I promise.

Everyneurotic 04.08.2008 03:29 PM

Rob Instigator 04.08.2008 03:39 PM

My girlfriend drinks Johnny Walker Black label. she has it with water, half and half

my friend Jean likes maker's Mark.

pbradley 04.08.2008 04:36 PM

Wild Turkey is perhaps my favorite with coke.

I should get some this weekend.

GoldSoundz 04.08.2008 04:58 PM

Makers

Everyneurotic 04.08.2008 05:30 PM

ohh, yeah, i always have it on the rocks.

pantophobia 04.08.2008 06:52 PM

like Maker's Mark

Jameson's doesn't agree with me ever, screws me up everytime i have it, although the last time i had about half a bottle, and most of it ended up in the sink

Cantankerous 04.08.2008 07:37 PM

it should be jameson, but it;s not.

uhler 04.08.2008 07:51 PM

i had my first whisky shot ever the last night i was in nyc. i'm not sure what brand it was so i can't tell you my favorite whisky. the shot made my nipples hard though.

krastian 04.08.2008 08:59 PM

All.....but no, I had a bottle of Beam every weekend of high school. This was when you'd get change back from a ten on a fifth.

Damn, now you guys got me thinkin' about whiskey.

Booker Noe knows.

iskandertime 04.08.2008 09:50 PM

I like me some Knob Creek bourbon and Jamesons' Irish whisky. Right now I am enjoying some Even Williams (my "budget bourbon").

barnaclelapse 04.08.2008 10:33 PM

I've always been partial to Gentleman Jack.

forkimified 04.09.2008 03:27 AM

My favs so far are probably Bushmills and Jameson, but I end up drinking a lot more Jack Daniels than anything. Or Grant's scotch.

screamingskull 04.09.2008 03:37 AM

jameson's i suppose, but i don't drink whiskey very often.

recently i have been drinking a lot of southern comfort (as usual) derperados, coronas, and white russians.

_slavo_ 04.09.2008 04:17 AM

Jameson 12year old
Chivas Regal

and the good ol' Jack Daniels

krastian 04.09.2008 01:59 PM

Jameson's is great, but fuck, it sure is expensive in the States!!

We seriously all need to get together before it's all said and done and fucking THROW DOWN!!!

funny story: one time at a party this guy got a bottle of maple syrup out of the fridge and told me and some friends it was Northern Comfort, that it was a maple alcohol. So we all do shots, and I'm like "no fucking way, this is just maple syrup" and the guy keeps insisting "no, it's northern comfort."

That was a fun night

Ha ha ha....that would be GREAT!! You should def. try and come back one of these days.

Had some Crown last night along with like 80 beers.

Disgruntled Youth 04.12.2008 01:00 PM

Fuck all that get with some Single malts like Glenlivet 12, Glenmorangie 12, Balvenie 12, The Macallan 12 or 20 wich is my choice yet a bit expensive. For cheap bourbon go with Old Forrester that's good for cheap burbon if you want something to wreck a night train go with Ancient age it will destroy you. A good Irish whiskey try Red Breast Pot Still, very fucking good kicks Jamesons Irish in the ass. For a good cheap single malt if you can find it try Speyside it's less than 30 but good.

RdTv 04.12.2008 01:17 PM

When I was younger I ran with Crown Royal, Wild Turkey 101 proof, Jim Beam black, Jack Daniels, Gentleman Jack. Far as scotch goes Disgruntled has a good list, I might add Isle of Jura, Oban and Glenfiddich. Bourbon wise I've had just about all the top mid and low end stuff, I mean I live in KY the birthplace of bourbon. My recommendations far as bourbon would be: Bookers, Blanton's,Four Roses small batch, Knob Creek,Makers,Bulleit, Old Forrester, Kentucky Tavern, the ;list going from high end to low end.

Right now my drink of choice is bourbon (specifically Bulleit) poured over the rocks, add some tonic and a lime, truly a spring and summer classic.

krastian 04.12.2008 02:04 PM

I love some Jim Beam Black....oh yes.
