A Thousand Threads 03.04.2008 02:06 PM

Commercial Album
Duck Stab

I also really like Gingerbread Man and Not Available
but most people hate these.

Savage Clone 03.04.2008 02:09 PM

I think my alltime favorite Residents tune might be Walter Westinghouse, but that's hard to say for sure.

SuperCreep 03.04.2008 03:13 PM

Third Reich 'n' Roll. My first Rezzies album and still my favorite. I love all of their 70's material and the Commercial Album. The rest of their work since then I find pretty hit or miss.

dnorsen 03.04.2008 03:14 PM

duck stab/buster & glen
finger prince
s/t
third reich of rock n roll

are my top 4. finger prince probably being the most favorite, mostly due to walter westinghouse as well!

the residents were one of the first bands i obsessed about. i used to have this great 1" residents eye pin straight from the 70's but lost it one night biking in boston. been bummed ever since ...

dnorsen 03.04.2008 03:15 PM

oh shit forgot the commercial album. actually between that and finger price are my favorites ...

Everyneurotic 03.04.2008 05:08 PM

pretty much, the only one i haven't liked by them so far that've listened to is the river of crimes.

i love them a lot.

atsonicpark 03.04.2008 05:36 PM

Their best is Duck Stab/Buster and Glen, though I said their "Classic" album is Third Reich N Roll in that little thing I do that no one cares about.

I actually own everything they've ever done. One of the bands you really need the liner notes and the art and stuff to fully appreciate their work. Their DVD's are amazing by the way.

I'm obviously a big fan of their first era more than their mid-period era (aside from TITLE IN LIMBO, but I'll get to that in a second) but they seem to have redeemed themselves with the newer stuff.

Anyway, I love Title in Limbo, and I reccomend EVERYONE check out Renaldo and the Loaf whose "Arabic Yodeling" alone is better than everything the Residents recorded. Amazing band.

Snakefinger's great, I only have one album by him (which is a collection of some of his hits, including "jesus is a leprechaun"). He's awesome. In fact, he's a totally underrated guitar player; he's almost as inventive as someone like Helios Creed.. I wonder why no one ever talks about him.

Everyneurotic 03.04.2008 05:42 PM

renaldo and the loaf are awesome too.

atsonicpark 03.04.2008 06:02 PM

They have a video on youtube (that's also on one of the residents dvds) that everyone needs to check out...

Another great band associated with the Residents is this band MX-80 Sound. They're slow and monotonous, it honestly sounds like Low sometimes but it's fused with some of the weirdest lyrics and hooks (and ridiculous guitar lines that literally come out of NOWHERE) at times. Check them out, everyone.

fugazifan 03.04.2008 06:33 PM

i only knowmeet the....and it is mazing
breath and length is brilliant, and the dog barking ast the beginning of the track-unbeleivable

God in Three Persons.
Creepy, poetic, theatrical, cheese tinged

atsonicpark 11.11.2009 02:47 AM

Had to bump this for God in Three Persons. My new favorite Residents album. I had a friend into this band like 10 years ago and he needed money so I bought pretty much everything they've ever done off of him and listened to it all but I guess I didn't pay much attention to Three Persons at the time.

This album is fucking amazing. It's basically a redneck narrating a story in iambic pantameter (sp?!) about siamese twin sex over the organ riff from DOUBLE SHOT OF MY BABY'S LOVE. It's just amazing. Get that one immediately, everyone.

That video is insane.

ICKY FLIX is indispensable.

Residents for presidents.

SuperCreep 11.11.2009 10:49 PM

I've had an unhealthy obsession with My Window ever since I saw them perform it live last year. I hum it everywhere uncontrollably.

Animal Lover is ridiculously underrated.

atsonicpark 11.12.2009 09:40 AM

isn't MX-80 Sound the band that covered the theme from "Halloween"?

This band is so brilliant. Their melodies always blow my mind, as does their production. What I really find interesting about this band is how none of their songs have a full drum sound. I mean, they've been doing this shit for, what, 30+ years now? And not a single song in their catalogue has drums that go beyond "ba dum ba dum ba dum" on a drum machine or electronic drum kit. Really interesting and inspiring, because you don't even notice it for the most part unless you're paying attention. It makes all their songs really distinct. Their constant insistence on playing "wrong" notes all the time is quite awesome, they have to be one of the most musical (and musically complex) bands ever to just sound so off and wrong all the time.

SYG has TEN Residents threads

Next year will mark 50 YEARS since their first gig......anyone listening to The Residents?

finding nobody 02.07.2020 01:13 PM

One of my favorite bands in the world! I got a chance to see them on the Shadowland tour. They had Molly Harvey come up and sing The Making Of A Soul as a duet with Randy. It was beautiful!!
My favorite albums are
Third Reich N Roll
Not Available
Fingerprince
Mark Of The Mole
