Best shop puns.
I love a shop with a good pun for a title as I am sure you all do. Please, share the best ones. I'll start.
Planet of the Grapes (A wine merchant on Oxford St, London) The Codfather (Fish and Chip Shop, Cardiff) Pieminister (Pie shop, Bristol) and my favourite: Baguetti Junction (Sandwich Shop, Cardiff) There is another good fish and chip shop one in Cardiff but I can't remember it. |
there's a shop on hacjkney road called "bag ally", which i suspect is supposed to be bag alley.
|
there is a coffee shop in Gaithersburg called 'Java the Hut'
the best though is 'Madam's Organ' in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of DC these are not puns but i have to share two different greasy looking restaurants on Georgia Ave, "Senor Pollo" translated into Mr. Chicken and of course Wonder Chicken! |
Endless amounts of sub-KFC shops called "Chick King". See what they did there?
I wonder whether, anywhere in the world, there's a Turkish breads shop called "Pida-Phile"? |

The pub I have my Friday lunchtime pint in serves pieminister pies. They are very, very good pies. Bristol also has my very favourite chip shop name ever: The Starchip Enterprise. There used to be one called the Cod almighty, but that was removed - can't remember where that was, somewhere Bristol/ Somerset ways. There's also my old favourite off-licence: Booze nest. Personal reasons, you understand. |
Abra Kebabra
Pizza the Action |
I have also seen an abrakebabra, and we should mention the fast food outlet in The League of Gentlemen called "Burger Me"
However, this sign i saw once takes the biscuit. I walked past a camping shop in Newcastle in about November a few years ago, and there was a picture of William Shakespeare with a speech bubble coming from his mouth, and the speech bubble said: "Now is the winter of our discount tents". |
my grandfather used to run this company called Castle that made selotape and packaging materials.
Their slogans were "you can wrap a parcel with Castle" and "there's no hassle with Castle" |

YES. This is the best one yet! There is a Cod Almighty in Cardiff, I've remembered now. That was the other one I was thinking of. Someone also told me that there's a halal butchers in Cardiff called Pak Butcher but I'm not sure I believe them. |

Starchip Enterprise is a good one. I have heard only good things about Pieminister pies but I have yet to taste one. I'll probably be in Bristol at the end of the month so I'll sample one then. |
There's a fish place here called Just For The Halibut. Makes me cringe every time I see it.

oh yes. cokehead central! i went there only once, for a friend's bachelor party. loved the debauchery but not the crowd. i love their mural ![]() and their "sorry we're open" sign too ![]() Quote:
ack, that truly is terrible |
Quote:
respect man, that's one of the first places the bad brains ever played. |
Quote:
it's not that kind of place anymore, im afraid. hasn't been in a long time is my guess. a lot of aging drunkards mostly. not pretty. :( |
Quote:
i could've guessed, like that one time like 10 years ago that i went to cbgbs and the whole place was stamped with nu metal band stickers. it's not the places, but the people who do stuff. still, it's nice to gaze at the ruins of a certain time, anthropology, anyone? |
Quote:
archaeology you mean? well, madam's organ is the place to go for granny sex. :D |
i meant more like the deduction of a culture thing, if you want to just study the stones and rubble, yeah then go ahead with archeology.
|
Quote:
oh you said ruins, i said granny sex :p |
so what's the science for that called? there certainly is a correlation.
ps: you bolted on our peter sellers conversation the other day. |
Soap Opera. It's a laundrette.
|
Doggy Style. It's a pet shop.
|

|

well i dont think this counts, but in this op shop i went into today there was a mis printed sign that said
Mens T-Shorts We laughed lots |
I think Kumquat Mae is one of my favourites so far. Ace, keep them coming.
Also, someone told me there's a shop in Cardiff called Buyology. I quite like that one. |
Pane in the Glass
I'd say that'd be my favourite in that picture. |
There's a Thai resturant called Thai-tanic in Sydney.
|
Fishcoteque in Waterloo. London.
|
I walked past a couple of new ones today.
First: Peter's Plaice (fish and chip shop) which is an alright, standard, run of the mill pun. However, it is right next door to Hel's Kitchen which is a cafe presumably run by a lady named Helen. The fact that these were right next to each other on a street with hardly any houses makes me feel warm inside. I like to imagaine that the owners of both are a pun loving married couple. |

a haircutting place in seymour indiana called "curl up and dye". no kidding. i want to take a picture of it and use it for an album cover. it's hilarious. it's got a big sign with this chick with curly hair next to "curl up" and she looks hilarious. and there's a dude's face next to the "Dye" part with blue hair. it's amazing.
|
Ok that takes the cake for the best one so far.
