Obligatory Rock N Roll HoF Thread 2023
Kate Bush sucks. not rock n roll. If they think she is important then they should immediately induct Sonic Youth, Minor Threat, The Misfits, Fugazi, or any number of deeply influential rock n roll acts. The kate Bush fans I grew up with had the WORST fucking taste in music.
I love Hip Hop, but the only reason the HoF "inducts" hip hop acts is to market their bullshit to younger audiences. Missy Elliott belongs in a Hip Hop HoF for sure. so does Kool Herc I love the Spinners, but I also love the Chi-lites, the Whispers, etc., all fucking amazing R&B, soul music acts, but they are not rock n roll. SHERYL FUCKING CROW? Michale Jackson's stage guitarist and backup singer? her fucking sunny 99.1 FM adult contempo "music" was fucking hideous when it first came out and has not gotten any better. Fuck she sucks shit. NOT deserving in the slightest. Link Wray? seminal instrumentalist, influencer. seems like a stretch though. George Michael. Great singer, but absolutely not rock n roll in any way. Pure pop star who transformed himself intoa torch-song, cabaret singer. Beautiful songs, but a pointless induction. |

actually i don't give 3 shits about this ohio institution that the thread is about hahaha. i went to ohio twice, not going back except maybe to pittsburgh. the andy warhol museum was cool. who cares what happens there? devo clearly fled akron as soon as they could (sorry evollove. wherever you are i wish you well lol.) but anyway, some ohio industry conference, who gives a shit. |
truth.
sad state of affairs. Rock n roll has been dead since Sonic Youth killed it. It has been 40 yrs of diminishing returns since then. the hottest shit now is NOT Hip Hop, or Reggaeton (been bumpin in Puerto Rico since late 80's) It is Peso Pluma, and others of that ilk, ugly bastards, singing songs a bout their debauchery, first hand shit. Instead of narcocorridos aggrandizing the cartels, it is personal rug stories, like early Hip Hop. https://youtu.be/kJflWOiAc6I I admire their balls, but man, I can't get into that "banda" oompah looompah, Polka rhythm shit. |
Quote:
jajajajjaajajjaaaa oompa loompa. truth. pero eso me suena medio a bachata también |
so, you are not a fan of earl 80's hardcore?
Minor Threat? Bad Religion? Minutemen? Dead Kennedy's? Husker Du? |
Quote:
es una mezcla total. No es terrible pero me recuerda de la musica que tocan en taquerias aqui en Houston TX. Quizas es bachata? |
why does every Tropicalia song have the same lilting guitar intro?
|
Quote:
minutemen sí funky bass minor threat pinches puritanos dead kennedys great hilarious viva jello black flag bien husker du no me gusta para nada bad brains yes (early) misfists yes meat puppets algo bad religion si no canta el pendejo flipper fucking great! if he'd just shut the fuck up a lot of this great shit was ruined by singing. kill the singers. bachata is from the dr and became popular in the 90s. i hate that overproduced 90s basic shit. but the old ones were just tropicsl folk music and lot of the old lyrics are about women who buy men drinks. like all the dudes are drunk and broke hahahahhaaahahaaaaaa. it was just the guitar that reminded me but it' a different beat |
jajajjaja so no canta el pendejo!!!!!! (Bad Religion) Soy IGUAL
|
check out in some streaming service an album called BACHATA ROJA it's music from like the 50 that the dictator hated hahahsh
it has that kind of guitar the songs are kinda like old boleros but sung by loser men xD extra note: not all the songs on bachata roja are good |
The concept of a "hall of fame" for rock and roll is stupid and antithetical to rock and roll in general - if it was for popular music as a whole, I could get behind it, but yeah whatever. It's always going to more focused on popularity above influence and I appreciate every inducted band who says "these guys we ripped off should be here".
The museum is apparently cool though. |

well.. ![]() there was always this aspect lol personally i have never been into music for the "stardom" shit, but a lot of people are... i think i recall from some interview or something that thurston moore in his childhood wanted to be a "rockstar". (i was a fucking nerd and wanted to be a "mad scientist." o well...) |
Around 12 years ago I made a road trip to Canton OH to see Wareen Moon inducted into Pro Football HoF and I made a pit stop in Cleveland. Visited Lake Erie, and the R,R Hlll of Fame.
There were some cool exhibits, but the biggest one you saw upon entering was a massive display of stage outfits worn by the likes of CHER, Madonna, Donna Summer, NEW KIDS ON THE FUCKING BLOCK, etc. It made me sad to see such SHIT. The best part was seeing the giant fake amps Neil Young used on the Live Rust tour. |
Quote:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0h8Pjf4vNM that's not rocknroll though but check it out https://www.udiscovermusic.com/stori...-love-feature/ well it is rocknroll after all, since rocknroll means fucking |
There should be a Hardcore Hall Of Puke in an alley behind the RRHOF, curated and inhabited by crustpunks.
|
I stopped reading the first post after "Kate Bush sucks".
But I think the HoF is bullshit. Why does it take seemingly forever to get the right/deserving people honored? |
This place is just too cool for school. Now Kate Bush gets added to the long/growing list of great artists who are dismissed here.
Fuck me. |
I adore Kate Bush, have everything by her. (That whole Stranger Things bullshit, which has made her so popular lately and most likely propelled her induction into the R&R HoF, was a horrendous misreading of "Running Up That Hill", but that's not her fault.) As Tricky said, "her music should be more treasured in [England] than The Beatles'".

anyway there really is no "here" the way you mean it, and there has never been, in the sense that "the board" has never had a consensus opinion on what constitutes the good and the true or whatever. never. not even about sonic youth itself. "here" never spoke with one voice about bad moon rising or the eternal or atl or jim o'rourke or anything. so "here" has always been a bit of a thunderdome, and frankly it's a lot more civilized these days than it used to be. "back in the day" it was 24/7 constant drama and tears and ragequits and insults. with your attitude you would not have lasted 5 minutes, lol. everybody was calling everybody else's favorite music "UNLISTENABLE" etc etc. everything always got dismissed here by one person or another! and there were massive, ridiculous feuds. and nobody is going to have the same taste in everything as everybody else, much less among people who feel sooooooooo invested in music, like their chosen music is their core identity or something. not mere "fans," but fanatics, fully spelled out. besides, nobody flaunts their tastes publicly for the same reason as everybody else either. some want to feel they are superior everyone else, some want to feel they are beneath everybody else (and therefore above everyone else), some are looking for the validation of someone else's agreement, some are looking for the fun of disagreement (or an outright fight), some are looking for a chance to call someone names, some want to be called names, some just want to troll, some just want to share, some just want to sell... everybody likes to moan about "the good old days," but everybody has a different idea of what that was. so "here" is just a place where these things happen. that's all the here there is. |
Pretty sure skuj was around back then. Maybe even before you.

Dude.... If some young person discovers the almighty Youth, then comes here to discuss/research further, then finds threads like this (and there are many of them now! (Fuck Gordon Lightfoot? Fuck me!!!)), I'd be completely embarrassed. This is fucking cringeworthy. I've been here a long-ass time. (I think my join date is listed as 2009, but I believe I was here earlier, then quit, or deleted, and had to rejoin, or something? There must have been other threads like this that pissed me off back then.) So I remember/know how this place works. I remember many musical discussions/debates. There were many strong opinions. But never do I recall the discussions sinking to the level of "Fuck Gordon Lightfoot" (on his fucking death day???) or "Kate Bush Sucks". Now, maybe those comments/threads come from ONE PERSON (What is the definition of a troll again?). Well, imho, that person can go FUCK THEMSELF. (The same person who declares that boygenius is bland music for bland people, when I fucking love the album? I'm not sure.) We've kicked out assholes from the political threads. We should do the same here. Are we like....7 posters now? Some people want it to be 5? 3? 1? I dunno. You can hate Kate Bush or Gordon Lightfoot if you wish. But to spell out your basest opinions about them on a Sonic Youth Forum is not helping anyone. Fuck, this place has become embarrassing. |
You know what? FUCKIT.
I swear, this is my last post at this forum. (I know...I know....I've probably "quit" 5x before.) But this time it really is different. It's just too.....cringeworthy now. And then there were 6? Have great lives!!! |
^ The new signature is priceless. :D You should keep posting here.

ow, come ooon! you could have just told him to go fuck himself a long time ago. now the future musical archeologists will just see you quitting? the person who said lame people or something was not the same. 2 different people offended you. so 2 "fuck yourself" would have been the A+++ answer probably and moving on. i try to respect other people's tastes and will say stuff like "doesn't do it for me" or "not my thing" or something, unless they pick a fight, then i might attack back, and if they go low i kick them, hahaha. if you really loved kate bush you could have "defended her honor" or whatever. idk. something. give someone a hard slap. argue her merits. haven't heard a word from you in her defense. i also asked you about gordon lightfoot because i wasn't familiar with the man. no word. only soupnazi replied and brought up nico. not my favorite cover by her but whatever. i have a reference now at least (thanks for that). if you wanted a more elevated discussion... you could have elevated it. what was the expression... be the change you want to see... something someting? ok. -- anyway, i'm sorry you're always quitting. |

You can be real and still really suck. Look at Dave Matthews Band |
Fuck Gordon Lightfoot.

that's funny, but mean. but still funny in the end? funny at this point just based on the continuous repetition of that phrase, in the face of no matter what happens. and it's not mean (in my eyes anyway) because of gordon lightfoot... for me it's truly mean because skuj already threw the towel, and left while making declarations of pain about this subject. but with this post you keep twisting the knife or kicking him while he's down or throwing bricks at his head or whatever. so it's cruel and disturbing... ... but funny too, at the same time? i'm full of contradictions. well, so is everybody... which is why this has endured the ages: ![]() in the end i'd rather laugh than cry though. that's just my personal choice. it doesn't mean life sucks any less. (in war, the jokes get really good...) |
Laugh at death. We will all cry at death anyways....

My only awareness of Dave Matthews Band is that something that is hugely popular in the states but non-existant in my country. Like The Grateful Dead, Hootie and the Blowfish, Sublime and Ben Harper. Or high school mass murder events. |
