FUGAZI

Discuss the greatness that is Fugazi.

Repeater and the Argument are tied for my favorite.

fugazifan 04.22.2007 04:43 PM

waiting room changed my life.
i dont listen to them that often anymore, but their albums (especially 13 songs) will always have a special place in my heart.
and ian mackaye is one of the nicest most genuine people that i have evr talked to...

atsonicpark 04.22.2007 04:50 PM

the argument is my jam.

all thier stuff is good though.

pantophobia 04.22.2007 04:55 PM

when down in dc for certain shows, ian mackaye is often hanging out in the back with that little hat of his, i have never said hi to him, but i am not that type, i think i was almost introduced to allison wolfe last year after the sleater-kinney gig was postponed and we were hanging out with this guy Izzy who knew her, but she got interupted, so that sucked

LDopa 04.22.2007 04:56 PM

I like Red Medicine a lot too. 'Bed for the Scraping' is one of my favorite songs.

Iain 04.22.2007 05:23 PM

Can we discuss how they are one of the most utterly, utterly boring bands in the history of everything ever?

terminal pharmacy 04.22.2007 05:28 PM

killtake and the argument for me but i love long distance runner on rm

I was avoiding the temptation to say exactly this, but oh yes!

I like the band in principle, I like what I've read about Ian McKaye, and I was a big fan of Minor Threat. And based on these facts, I wanted to like Fugazi.

But, my god, they're dull.

Some of their stuff is more laid back, but a good chunk of it is pretty high energy shit. Give Red Medicine a listen.

youthoftomorrow 04.22.2007 08:18 PM

"Strange Light" is one of my favorite songs.

k-krack 04.22.2007 08:24 PM

Such an amazing band. Probably in my top ten bands of all-time.
The Argument and Red Medicine are such amazing albums.
Just as well, End Hits (of the three albums I've heard...) seems to be like... a really perfect balance of the really wirey-gutiars Fugazi with the sludgy, more punk-rock stuff. If anyone knows what I mean...

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.22.2007 11:36 PM

I was listening to the Argument for the first time in awhile yesterday. I think I'm burned out on all the other stuff Fugazi. . . but I love them.

Pax Americana 04.23.2007 12:28 AM

Fugazi are one of my very favorite bands of all time. I was just watching Instrument the other day and wishing I had gotten to see them live.

I really wish they'd record together again.

krastian 04.23.2007 12:58 AM

It's long division....crack and divide.

I've heard all the albums and seen them live. I haven't got anything against them as I've said, I just think they're records are a bit dull.

Having said that, they were really good live.

ZEROpumpkins 04.23.2007 02:59 AM

This is weird that this thread has been posted, as on my way home 10 minutes ago, I was wondering about the literal meaning of Fucked Up, Got Ambushed, Zipped In. It was in my head the whole day!

Toilet & Bowels 04.23.2007 04:40 AM

when i saw them live they weren't that great, in fact they were upstaged by erase errata who were supporting them

jon boy 04.23.2007 09:55 AM

i never found them to be good at all, quite dull infact. people go on about them as if they where utterly great but they always seemed pretty boring to me.

pbradley 04.23.2007 10:05 AM

I've only really been able to get into Repeater.

And maybe some parts of In On The Kill Taker.

gmku 04.23.2007 10:27 AM

Very nostalgic re Repeater. It's held up over the years, too. And The Argument is awesome as well. In fact, I can't think of one thing they've done that I don't like.

Yeah, mine too.

Aren't you from Czech Republic by chance?

It refers to a really bad combat situation. If I remember correctly, I believe it was coined by US soldiers during the Vietnam War. "Fucked Up" refers to someone lowering their guard or doing something to draw attention. "Got Ambushed" is pretty self-explanatory. "Zipped In" refers to the killed soldier being zipped up in a body bag.

Everyneurotic 04.23.2007 06:46 PM

minor threat 4 lyfe

No, why do you ask that??

Cause there was a music journalist back in the while there that kept writing about indie/post-HC music with the same pseudonym as you have.

Just wondering.

sarramkrop 04.24.2007 02:33 AM

I like some of their records but i couldn't listen to them all the time because they seem to be all mostly about anger, and that can be depressing after a while. Repeater is a favourite, but really, you wish they would cheer the fuck up a little on a few of them.

Ahh yeah thanks. I wiki'd it anyway haha.

I actually think "By You" is just about the best thing they've ever recorded.

That is absolutely one of their best songs. Couldn't agree more.

hahaha I ALWAYS have this stuck in my head for some reason. All the time when I'm walking down one set of stiars at school I'm thinking "Fucked up, Got Ambushed, Zipped in..."

I blame it on the parents.

Bollocks_to_Pop 04.24.2007 11:19 PM

Probably my personal favorite is actually Long Distance Runner off Red Medicine. I haven't been listening to them lately but I think I might change that.

Oh totally......I can't listen to ANY record more than twice a year or so unless it is new and from one of my favorites bands......and frankly this rarely happens anymore. That being said, I've listened to Rather Ripped about a million times in my car.
