A Film Worth Remaking?
Given Hollywood's current obsession with remaking films that were perfectly good in their original form, can you think of any films that might be improved by a makeover?

how can that be improved upon? nooooooooo.... it would be like doing a remake of "battleship potemkin" -- i suggest something that in principe was maybe ok but in practice was horrid. like this... ![]() eh??? |

dispite the fact it was released in 94, i thought the exact same thing, you ain't gonna improve on it though which reminds me of this post from another forum about weird theatre experiences "Also, you know the part in Speed when Jack discovers why Howard's been calling Annie "wildcat"? Jack: "You go to the University of Arizona?" Annie: "Yeah." Jack: "Good football team." Annie: "Yeah, I guess so. I never really paid attention." Jack: "ARIZOOONA WIIILDCAAATSSS." Entire theater erupted in applause and hoots and hollers for like, five minutes straight." ain't gonna get better then that "Jack, there is enough C4 on here to put a hole in the world" classic writing |
Toxic Avenger and Krull could definately benifit from remakes. Another two I was thinking were the Thing and ESPECIALLY Dune. Dune really should be the next epic trilogy saga. I don't care how many of them they make, they need to make em.
The weirdest theatre experience I probably ever had was Freddy got fingered. The part where Tom Green drives into his driveway and the little kid comes running up to his car to say hi, but trips right before he gets there and gets his tooth stabbed through his bottom lip. And it cuts away to a new scene right as you see he's horribly injured, and right after that moment, after a few seconds like only 3 people in the whole theatre just started laughing at the top of their lungs |
I want to see a remake of Platoon with all the original actors, only this time around they have to be at least 80 years old, so clearly this won't happen for quite some time. And if certain actors are dead by then, I don't want their spaces to be filled by anyone else. When we would normally hear their dialogue, I just want to hear silence, and then the rest of the cast can continue on as if nothing is wrong.
Anyway I think they should do this with all Willem Dafoe movies because if I'm imagining this correctly, by the time he's 80 or so he's going to look like walking Death (even moreso than he does now). And I think movies like Off Limits and Streets of Fire would benefit from being remade with an entirely elderly cast. |
The only films worth remaking are bad ones. Why remake it if it was good in the first place (aside from lack of originality and a desperate need to turn a profit.) Can anyone think of a good movie with a remake that measures up to it?

freddy got fingered is a great movie, i love it so much im a huge tom green fan.
and toxic avenger is suppose to be shit so that doesnt need remaking i say remake Catwomen and Resident Evil and Silent Hill They are remaking The Hulk with that dude |

Good one. It could have been a good film without Phil Collins in it. |

Ummmm, read through this. . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_film_remakes There are a few. . . but most of the good ones are 30s and 40s remakes of silent films. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a remake of Bedtime story with Marlon Brando and David Niven. A Fistful of Dollars is a remake of Yojimbo. Other good remakes that are not necessarily better but offer something: Major Payne Oscar Throw Momma From the Train (Strangers on a Train) The Man Who Knew Too Much (which is funny because Hitchcock directed the original as well) 12 Monkeys (La Jetee) The Magnificent Seven Ewwwwww. . . apparently there is a new Flash Gordon coming out? How can it possibly be any good without a Queen soundtrack? And they are remaking revenge of the nerds? Mannnn. LAME. |
I don't believe in remaking films that were originally perfect.
The first film that springs to mind which definitely needs to be done again, is American Psycho. Although the cast is good, the film lacks something. The book is well known for it gory scenes which are absent in the film. The story is about escapism, but the film is just about Christian Bale killing people in very amusing ways. Nothing more. Also, there are no clues throughout the film explaining that the murders were just Bateman's fantasies. It's just another average film that could have been executed in style, if Harron had taken her time, and thought about it carefully. |
I know "The Toxic Avenger" is suppose to be cheap looking, but imagine if they did it and kept the humor but also made it over the top violence, more like the comic book that came out. It would be pretty cool.

None of them. Remaking a movie is like shooting the same corpse over and over again.

![]() ![]() Dave Chappelle has stated that the script was way better than the movie turned out and that he was unhappy with the finished product. The original is still great though. |

Surely remaking a movie is no worse than covering someone elses record. |

Not really. The nature of music is much more volatile and opens itself up to different interpretations. A song is a fundamentally different medium than a movie. |
I really don't see the point of remaking a film at all unless in a very special circumstance. Taking inspiration from is another thing though. eg 12 Monkeys which couldn't be called a remake of La Jetee.

FUCK NO!!!!!! i'm dead opposed!!! how can they even imagine something like this? what's next, a remake of ferris bueller starring frankie muniz? |
The only good remakes i've ever watched were porn parodies of hollywood movies.

AMEN. Hollywood needs to stop remaking EVERYTHING. The 2nd Batman Begins movie is gonna have the damn Joker in it. I read the director said something like " I really didn't want to do it at first because Nicholson was completely perfect.......... " It's like then DON'T DO IT!!!! jeez |
why would toxic avenger need remade?
... uh.. anyway, a remake should only happen if there's some huge flaw with the original... for example, tarantino wrote natural born killers but disowned it because of oliver stone's changes to the script. it'd be cool if it were remade by tarantino or someone else based more on tarantino's script.. stuff like that, in my mind, would warrant a remake. |
The Great Escape
A Clockwork Orange (done by someone cool like Darren Aronofsky) |

No. |

Why not? I think a new spin on it would be quite nice. |
no no no.
never remake a clockwork orange. |

Alright, alright. bad idea. What about Citizen Kane then? |
hahahahaha.

Actually Citizen Kane with Justin Timberlake in the lead might be the ultimate remake. |
I think sometimes movies tend to go horribly wrong whenever they're based on well-known books, comics, etc. I support remakes of these movies (the bad ones at least), though they aren't so much remakes as they are different interpretations of the original piece of writing.
And then with horror movies it's like there are no rules, really. Of course it was pointless to remake Psycho, but when you have a movie monster who kind of transcends the original work they were featured in (whether it began on or offscreen), to me it's like anyone's game. I personally would love to see a great, new werewolf movie without the camp factor for once. There are plenty of campy horror movies out there, and I have no problem with it at all, but I am dying to see more new (good) horror films that are less tongue-in-cheek, or on the opposite side of the spectrum, less like the Saw trilogy. It seems like filmmakers are having a difficult time finding the middle ground, if they're even looking for it at all. And maybe it's not even the middle ground, but a whole different direction entirely that they need to pursue. I just don't find scary movies scary anymore, which is a shame. When I was in elementary school, I was very much obsessed with old horror movies, and our rental store at the time had plenty in stock that I was trying to make my way through. Also, CGI is, for the most part, not scary. Stick with puppets, people. Whenever I hear people around my age talking about movies that scared the shit out of them as children, it's always Labyrinth and the Dark Crystal and movies that really aren't classified as horror but are for some reason still "creepy" in their own subtle way. I think there's something there that really needs to be explored and exploited, only this time around for an adult audience. |
Please! Not Citizen Kane!!!
