Dogs just killed a cat

I heard dogs barking outside. Then I heard dogs running through my front porch. And then I heard the sound of dogs growling and... I got up, looked through the window, and saw two dogs attacking a single cat. I banged on my window to try to scare 'em away, but they were oblivious. And then I got my flash light and flashed it on 'em, but they still continued to attack the cat until it was motionless. The cat's dead on the sidewalk.

ZEROpumpkins 04.04.2007 04:10 AM

Well nature's just taking it's course. Ironically I don't eat meat.

foxforce5 04.04.2007 05:29 AM

Cats kill smaller animals for no reason all the time.

fishmonkey 04.04.2007 05:36 AM

reminds me of that part of "road trip" where Jim Carey is holding the mouse over the snake in the tank, fair funny...

"you will soon be at the bottom of the food chain"

(*edit...nahh monkey you dopey sausage, its Tom Green!)

jon boy 04.04.2007 05:40 AM

:(Poor cat!:(

nicfit 04.04.2007 06:12 AM

poor cat

what foxforce5 said is true, they (cats) kill lizards and birds and so on just for fun (and to fullfill their "hunting" instinct), but witnessing dogs commit cruel acts is more scary/disturbing in a way...

pokkeherrie 04.04.2007 08:18 AM

it is disturbing. i once saw two dogs (not mine) killing a cat as well. i let them outside the house i was staying and they immediately went for a cat that was in the bushes and i hadn't noticed.
the cat defended itself bravely by jumping and scratching one dog on the shout, but it was an unequal battle. i managed to pick up the cat and carried it to safety, but the dogs had already torn open its stomach so its intestines were visible... it had a few heavy last breaths and died on the doorstep after about a minute. there was cat's blood all over my arms and i almost had to throw up. i was really angry at the dogs for a moment, but then accepted that i couldn't really blame them for what they did.

jon boy 04.04.2007 08:26 AM

but why are dogs just running around? surely their owners should look after them. if they where strays then why dsisnt someone in the authorities pick them up?

nicfit 04.04.2007 08:28 AM

It's hard to keep in mind that they are still animals, even if they love you and you love them. To me cats always seemed "wilder" than dogs, seeing a cat with a little bird in mouth is less disturbing than seeing a dog hurting another animal.
But in some cases, it's a good thing:
IF YOU ARE EASILY "DISTURBED" DON'T WATCH THIS
it's not really "violent", but it's not "funny".

jon boy 04.04.2007 08:33 AM

i dont know about cats and birds. its pretty awful because they tend to play with the thing before they kill it and its pretty awful to see.

nicfit 04.04.2007 08:42 AM

I know it's kinda cruel, but it does not strike me that much coz in a way that's what i "expect" from a cat, seeing a dog trying to cause pain to another living being is a different story (imo).

nomowish 04.05.2007 08:38 PM

To be honest, I was disturbed, but only for maybe 30 minutes.

From where I stood, the dogs didn't eat the cat; they just attacked it, dropped it on the sidewalk, paused, looked around, and then walked away [the "human" qualities of animals fascinate me].

The fact that they didn't eat the thing is what puzzles me. What's the beef between dogs and cats?

!@#$%! 04.05.2007 08:41 PM

i hope the cat ate their newborn puppies

floatingslowly 04.05.2007 08:53 PM

I'd never let the cats out.

besides leukemia, there's all kinds of bad shit that they can catch.

besides, house cats live FOREVERRRRRRR...

i hope so. i have a friend who has a 16 year-old FIV+ cat & she's a little creaky but still going. my cat is FIV positive & never but ever leaves the house-- except when we take him on trips. he's crossed the u.s. from coast to coast a couple of times.

floatingslowly 04.05.2007 08:59 PM

currently we have three cats and one is 18.

she's started shitting on clothes that fall on the floor, so her time on this planet isn't long.

This thread made me think of the Picassos of the cat and the bird and of the part in Surviving Picasso when he (Anthony Hopkins) and Francoise Gilot (Natascha McElhone) are in the junkyard for sculpture-scrap iron, and the owl swoops down and grabs the cat.

On that subject, I've been waiting for that to happen since there's some rather large birds of prey that are around the same time in the late morning every day and there are two undomesticated cats that hang out next door to me. They are often in my yard too. One put half a mouse on my patio recently and they like to stalk under trees for birds...the baby ones, I imagine. There's no way you can get close to them. Sometimes, I make noises which causes them to freeze and they eventually look over; we then have staring contests. I went over the stream & through the woods the other day to the multiplex and shopping center through the bamboo woods up the hill haha and I saw one of the cats (both are calicos and large) over at the shopping center. Which is weird because of the whole crossing the stream and the steep uphill part a bit too.
The neighbor's dog is some inbred fucked-up labrador crossed-with I don't know and I've seen it coming crashing through from "that side" a few times, but I can't figure out what exactly is going on. The "stream" is like this wide drainage ditch thing (although it's not that bad...beavers live there and tadpoles, polywogs (tom sawyer huck finn all the sudden here) all that...there are some concrete structures a long way down from where I am) but it's fairly deep chasm overall for a dog or even a cat. One would think they would avoid some natural barrier as such. I go across where there's a pathway and some large stones laid in the water and I suppose the dog and cat do too, but I can't imagine how because of the drop-off...wierd thing about the beavers...i've seen one come through the backyard on two occasions and they are truckin' it as fast as they can go...i goggled 'em and i think it's a carolina beaver which are nocturnal like all beavers, but both times I saw them during the day. late in the wee hours there are deer all about and there are two squirrels that have a definite daily ritual around my yard.

anyway, this neighbor's dog comes tearing out of "the woods" with a large stick in his mouth both times I saw it.

yeah, i'm fucked up now, pardon...

floatingslowly 04.05.2007 09:11 PM

that's not it!

if clothes fall off their hanger in the closet, or GAWD forbid my pillow falls off the bed at night (and she notices)....she will shit on it.

there's nothing like having to check your pillow for ninja-shit at 3:00am.

that's another reason I would never let my cat out....my neighbor's have a family of mean-ass pitbulls.

one is named Kanye, and I'm fairly certain he's the only one that cares about white people. the others want me dead.

Ninja-shit... I've heard it all now.

atari 2600 04.05.2007 09:26 PM

Pit Bulls are cool dogs usually, but it sounds like those are owned by someone that is not cool. In that case, they are most uncool dogs.

A friend has this great brindled Staffordshire (I think) one.

As for the dog next door, although I've never been a Labrador Retriever fan, (not much of a Golden Retriever fan either...bot hare extremely popular in the U.S.). This one is crossed with something and it's not right. I've had a couple of run-ins. Dogs usually love me. Cats too.

no way, the owners are really cool. the female just had pups so she's freakishly weird right now.

although I'm a smoker, I don't smoke in my house. the back porch is really the only place to go. that's just high enough that dogs can see me.

Kanye is chill. he doesn't care about anything. it's the bitch and her pup that bark. sometimes there is a miniature pincer there too. I swear that dog's going to be eaten soon.
