Sounds positively megatonic indeed! :eek: A Branca/Chatham-esque army with 12-string weapons!


I vote to add Roger McGuinn, Peter Buck and Johnny Marr to the stew of most likely more avant-degenerate 12-string players. :D

Stu, how was the 12x12 gig?

It was brilliant!

Started with a nice acoustic set. 12 identical guitars with Thurston leading the way conducting to the other 11 performers. The electric set was my favourite though and it was funny seeing 11 other people copying Thurston's trademark screwdriver and chisel actions and finishing with a feedback session! Beautiful projections and sound. Also interesting seeing James Sedwards semi conducting to the 4 other people on his half of the stage.

I don't care if you liked it. The important question here is: did you tape it? :D

Urgh gutted to have missed this. How was it?

He documents encounters with Tony Wilson, Terry Hall, Viv Albertine, Tracey Thorn, Roisin Murphy, John Lydon and Johnny Marr. Morrissey comes to tea and Sonic Youth sleep on his floor.

A benefit show for children’s charity the HOPING Foundation, hosted by comedian John Bishop and headlined by indie giants The Libertines. Also performing will be the legendary Patti Smith, art-rock icon Thurston Moore and winner of the 2018 NME Award for ‘Best British Solo Artist’, Loyle Carner. Inter-set poetry and readings will be performed by Eric Cantona and comedian Frankie Boyle.
Limited edition exclusive posters designed as a gesture of support for the children of Palestine by artists Sarah Lucas, Tracey Emin and Robert Del Naja (3D) from Massive Attack will also be available at the event.

CXR presents an evening of live music & poetry, in solidarity with the Palestinian people of Gaza after the Israeli military's recent escalation of violence in the besieged coastal strip.

Funds raised will be donated to Gaza Children Cinema, an initiative to create "a space where a child can live joyful moments while surviving the bitter reality of siege loss, hardship and war."
The project was partly housed by the Said Al-Mishal cultural centre, which was completely destroyed by Israeli airstrikes just a few weeks ago in a deliberate attack. Funding and solidarity is needed now more than ever to resist Israel's attempts to erase Palestinian culture.

Christian Marclay The Wind-Up Guitar
A founding member of noise rock legends Sonic Youth and a free improviser in his own right, Thurston Moore has spent the last 30 years threading together a disparate network of guitar music. His tenure on the instrument is evident in this concert, which includes a solo performance of Christian Marclay’s Wind-up Guitar (1994), a customised acoustic instrument which Marclay has fitted with 12 music box mechanisms. Blue Danube and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star are among the 12 melodies that can be played simultaneously, along with the guitar itself. Moore and his band will also perform a tribute to late avant-garde guitarist Glenn Branca. A pivotal figure in the New York No Wave scene of the 70s and 80s, Branca is famous for providing guitar music with a template for modern classical composition in The Ascension. In this fitting homage, Moore brings his influence full circle.
