Should I change My Name To Prof. Poppinfresh?
 

I hate this name: noumenal. It was a big fucking mistake and I should have changed it when we came over to the new board.

mmmmmm When I announced on the college radio station over the summer, my name was "PoppinFresh." Some of my friends call me Prof. PoppinFresh.

The name comes from a story; I'll make it short. I was at Outback Steakhouse with two friends. I was hungry and eating my steak ravenously. A woman at the table next to us (who was celebrating her birthday and was a bit drunk) came over and said, "I like the way you eat that steak. I bet you go at women the same way. *pause* I just turned 40, but I'm still poppin' fresh..." Now I regret typing that.

If you're going to make the change, then can you, for the sake of tidiness, do so now, immediately after your 1500th post as Noumenal.

Tidiness is anathema to me. Besides, I need more votes. And I'd like to hear from some other boardies.

The name Prof. Poppinfresh is equivalant to having someone's strange cat lick at the hems of your pants. I don't like it at all but some people are overjoyed by it.

Wow, I didn't expect people to have such strong negative opinions about a screen name. But I guess we're all sort of used to having strong opinions about everything. It's what makes us who we are. Our opinions, that is.....ahem....

I've been tempted to change my name for a while, but was having problems thinking of something portentious enough. Am open to suggestions, but I will, of course, ignore them entirely.

Yeah, Prof. PoppinFresh certainly isn't portentous. I think "retarded" is a better description. But that is kind of what I'm going for. Reflects my personality better. People actually call me this. Noumenal is more of an inside joke that no one gets, not even me.

I always assumed noumenal was a Kantian reference, possibly a pun on 'nominal', albeit a bad one.

Yes, Kantian through Schopenhauer, which is where the music connection comes in. Also, my middle name is Newman. But having a philosophy reference as my name seems really prenentious, especially since I have only a very basic understanding of all that mess. It did work as a good joke about the old Twins player Al Newman being my Doppelganger - that never really caught on.






Anyway, this thread needs to die. It's too focused on me - I feel like a tool making a thread about my screen name.
