Moving house again

What a stress! Our landlord just informed us two days ago that our house is getting sold and we have to move further east(well, just round the corner but....).We have 2 weeks to pack our shit and i'm already a little stressed out about my records as they are the most difficult thing to move from place to place. On top of this he hardly speaks any english and we're all trying to find out if he understands us and we understand him.We just came back from seeing this house where a family live and are moving next week.Have you ever gone through a similar stressful situation?

!@#$%! 01.31.2007 05:06 PM

fucking shit! 2 weeks! that can't be legal!!

are you sure??

anyway it's funny but i'm moving tomorrow. i love the opportunity of going to a big new house with plenty of electricity and cheap internet because for over a year i've been living in the middle of nowhere in a solar-powered place that just does not let me play with my welder. and the prospect of satellite internet was glum. hence, this is most fucking welcome. decided a week ago, went out of town, came back to sign the lease and wham.

but of coure the old house remains so this cannot compare.

gack. are you sure you'll be kicked out? can't you fight back for an extension? bitch landlord!

Пятхъдесят Шест 01.31.2007 05:09 PM

Thats no fun Pork.

At least you're not alone. Put that Russian to work! Переместите это!

Glice 01.31.2007 05:11 PM

Ah, the fun of London. I miss the chaos more often these days. I'm also moving soon, it'll be ace.

porkmarras 01.31.2007 05:12 PM

He's re-housing us with the same company he works for. It's so confusing thinking about what's going on because, although he is a lovely guy,it's very hard to understand what's going on from him.Internet and stuff like that don't bother me so much as here we didn't pay bills and have free internet connection but i'm not sure what the bill situation will be in the new place as evrything is on the meter and he's already talked about raising the rent.Unless i move in with a friend and say goodbye to east london and commuting hell for a while.

oh wait. there's the question of sanity. is your friend sane? that's more important than hot in my experience. having to call the cops at 2am is never a good thing.

porkmarras 01.31.2007 05:15 PM

Before moving into the house we are in now I was caught in a very nasty situation with my landlord, mostly due to the fact that he was my fucking boss! Long story short, my ex-boss was a realtor on side, he offered to help us buy a home. We found one we loved, moved in, fixed it up, put all sorts or money and effort into it, thinking we were there on like a rent-to-own basis. After just one year he decided to sell it out from under us. We had about a month to find another place, but moving sucks! Especially with kids. I quit that job and got a much better one, but still have to see that asshole on occasion... Anyway, good luck Porky!

holy ass i didn't know THAT was the job you quit.

and you had hesitations?

good quitting!!

now... you want me to meet the asshole with a hammer in some dark alley? i'll trotsky his ass! :D

PAULYBEE2656 01.31.2007 05:19 PM

i bought my current home last april, its my 2nd bought home. ive moved 9 times in total and its sheer hell. by the way porky. if u pay yr rent monthly, legally they have to give you a weeks notice also they cant get rid of you mid lease, if u havent a lease then tough shit im afraid. at least thats irish law.....

moving out sucks but moving in is a great thrill, unless you are moving into a shithole with shitheads, ive been there too!

Thanks. What bugs me is that a couple of months ago the owner of the house came in to have a look of the place and a previous tennent told me that he was thinking of selling. When i've asked Tony(our landlord) he said not to worry because it wasn't happening until October. And then we get this.As i said,he's a nice guy but tonight i feel like strangling him.

Yeah but we all paid a two-weeks deposit. The two guys who live next to my room are already getting stoned heavily. This is gonna be fun.For now.

Hip Priest 01.31.2007 05:23 PM

It's horrible that you have to mov so quickly, but maybe you'll see a little less trouble in the street you're moving to. I hope it all goes well.

!@#$%! 01.31.2007 05:24 PM

i have to say i feel like a veteran mover among you guys. im not trying to boast, as moving is hell, but my parents moved 12 times in their first 12 years of marriage. after i moved out of their last place, i move in average once every 2 years, mostly because a) different countries/cities/budgets b) crazy girlfriends, and now c) lack of space/electricity/internet. yes, moving sucks but its a good occasion to get rid of useless junk. i'm still expecting to move a lot because i don't want to stay in this town and i want to own a house. so ha ha i gotta get used to it.

but 2 weeks notice really sucks balls.

porks, tell us more about your friend. he he. cmon-- confess.

ooooohhhh... the plot thickens...

if you guys can get along without getting jealous of new boyfriends sounds like it could be a good thing. if on the other hand passions re-ignite, well, make sure to keep notes, it could make excellent material for a play.

That's sweet of you to say especially as he is very very down at the moment.Terrible year but wonderful person,if you get what i mean.To change the subject a bit,i have some wonderful, deeply sweet, caring, intelligent friends so i suppose i should shut the fuck up a bit.

shut the fuck up a bit about the complaints if you wish but please do share the gossip. may i ask why you & ex broke up? i mean, it's a risky proposition, moving back with an ex. i have never done it myself.

jon boy 01.31.2007 05:40 PM

sorry to hear about your problems pork. i have moved so much over the years that its untrue. every time almost i had problems with the landlord for one reason or another. they were always slow to give back my deposit and usually took some of it for 'damages' even though there were none. its different when they want the rent out of you though. fuckers.

Glice 01.31.2007 05:42 PM

I moved house about twice a week for 6 months when I was homeless and sofa surfing. Only slept rough once (sober) though. Do I win?

yes you win. i've never been homeless. that would be so... itchy, i think.

porkmarras 01.31.2007 05:45 PM

I know i come accross as an internet attention whore but i have a private life too,you know?Anyway,he's the most gorgeous and intelligent guy i have ever met and he is possibly one of the few people who can put me into place when it comes to most things.I'm never happy when he wins but he does it so i accept it.I don't know if you've ever met your match but i have and it's hard for both to let go.

oh, sorry. you did wonder publicly if you should move in with him, hence my curiosity.

see?

anyway, he sounds like a wonderful guy. maybe you two should marry like jico sez. or not. i dont know. anyway. not trying to be a tabloid here, but i see hm many possible complications that shall remain unnamed.

Glice 01.31.2007 05:51 PM

The person concerned, having met him but once, is utterly wonderful and, it would seem, has better sense than to be on the internet. He thinks the world of you as well Porky, which I thought was sweet. I'm pretty sure he'd not appreciate being spoken of by slightly minging indie kids on the internet.

re: sofa surfing: It was actually a load of fun. Different showers to cope with, got loads of work done - without my creature comforts (computers, radio, records etc) I got to be on first-name terms with librarians, and I read more books that year than many people do in a lifetime. Also, sleeping on floors straightened my back out quite significantly. I can only heartily recommend it.

Hehe.I'm sorry but i win.I was homeless for about a year when i was 18 and i wondered around the streets of Europe, met tramps, whores, trannies, delinquents of any sort and finally made London my home.I win.I'm glamour. You know i'm kidding though.

SynthethicalY 01.31.2007 06:17 PM

I could never be a homeless kid. I just grew up in this dirt, and I want to move up the ladder.

porkmarras 01.31.2007 06:25 PM

oh, please don't worry. i know it may feel like a transgression, but his reputation hasn't been trashed, especially since all remained in the abstract. but i'd sure keep glice's dirty little hands off him though. :D

Either at the end of this month or at the end of next month (I don't know yet, it depends on when the girl who is usually living in the apartment comes back), I will have to move again. It will be the fourth time in a year that I'm moving places. I realise it is next to nothing compared to the rate of twice a week that was mentioned earlier, but still, I am a bit tired of it.

Plus, I realise that the fact that I moved quite a bit lately is one of the reasons why I haven't been able to bring together all my records with me: I have quite a few of them that are at my parents' place or at my brother's place, and which I haven't been able to listen to in more than 2 years. It can get really frustrating when I suddenly feel the urge to listen to one particular record that I don't have here with me…

Tokolosh 02.01.2007 04:13 AM

This sounds like a story about illegal immigrants.

I experienced that when I first came to Holland. Moved from squatter camp to squatter camp, till I eventually got so sick of living with hippies, that I registered myself, and got my own place. Good luck, and I hope your records get to your new home intact.

thats the thing i dont like about berlin, i want a place where i can stay for longer than someone elses holliday. plus the records thing, mine i left at my parents and when i came back at christmas my dad had lent things against them, left them near a radiator and some of them are ruined.

Norma J 02.01.2007 04:46 AM

We're house hunting at the moment. Fucking stressful thing it is.

Arrrgh!!That must be really annoying!I have so many records at my mum's but thankfully she has plenty of storage space and she's not into a lot of them just yet.
