I knew this would be a weird movie, because it's done by Cronenberg
So yeah, very weird movie :-) Understandable that people walked out of the cinema. But summer comes early over here this year, so I was too lazy to move off my couch and I watched it entirely.
Quite liked it actually, even though some parts are a bit nauseating.

Sinners.

It was fucking excellent.

I don’t even give a shit about Ryan Coogler usually but this was really something.

John Wick 4? Johnny Mnemonic?

I dunno. I hate those John Wick movies though. Also there’s going to be a fifth one so he didn’t die I guess.

Very cool and funny and awesome and sad.

not the best movie, but still a nice watch, especially because it is so not-Hollywood. There's one very graphic scene that they could have toned down a bit.

2nd time I watched this movie, which is a bit lame because you already know who the killer is (spoiler alert), but it still is a great movie, with a wonderful cast and script

I posted about this recently: found it mediocre at best. Derivative of Shane Meadows' superior Dead Man's Shoes. Check it bruv.

It's Michael Haneke, mara. Asking him to tone down his famous brutality trait is like asking Sonic Youth to tone down the noise a bit.

I enjoyed it because it is very non-american in its portrayal of a revenge fantasy.

I found it much more watchable than John Wick 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

Will check out Dead Man's Shoes

watched this last nite with wife. still fun. my wife pointed out that, despite van damme being a wooden actor, the worst part of this movie is the lady reporter. hammy.

Oh man, nostalgia! I watched some scenes from this during Covid, but I haven’t seen it in full since like 1992.

Toilet & Bowels 06.21.2025 12:35 AM

Dead Man's Shoes is fucking brilliant. As is most of Shane Meadows output.

Omg I loved this movie when I was 8 or 9. Also one of the Karate Tiger movies, I think it was 4 or something. Need to re-watch it sometime.

I saw a clip of John Wick and found it strange, Keanu Reeves slapping people silly before shooting them. In reality would just shoot first. I guess that's the point of gun-martial-arts or whatever it is. Daft as a brush like.

If you enjoyed Neil Maskell in Bull and want more British grit then you might also like Ben Wheatley's Kill List.

Aye, I concur. The last thing I saw of his was The Virtues. He portrays harsh northern reality perfectly.

Severian 06.23.2025 04:48 PM

Final Destination: Bloodlines — I’m shocked that this thing has a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s not the worst FD movie but it sure as hell isn’t good by any stretch of the imagination. The violence is cartoonish to the point of being hilarity.

Dead Man's Shoes is one of my favourite movies. As far as British movies go, it's up there for me with 'Nil By Mouth' by Gary Oldman, a movie I always need to own in some format or another. I love so many of Shane Meadows' movies. Recently I was rewatching 'Somers Town', another great one. A while ago I was in Sheffield and decided to go into this pub called Fagan's on Broad Lane because my partner had an appointment in the hospital next to it. When I walked into it, I noticed they had a few pictures from 'This is England' and a framed poster of 'Dead Man's Shoes'. I was chatting to the guy behind the bar and he told me the pub had just been taken over by a group of people who work for Warp Films with some associate business partners.

Diesel 06.25.2025 05:32 PM

I've never seen Nil By Mouth. Made a note to watch it. That's interesting about Warp films. When I checked their filmography it turns out there's some films on there I've seen and own but didn't realise were produced by them.

On a whim, and bored, wife and I tried watching the Minecraft movie on the HBO, but got about 15 minutes into the seemingly endless exposition narration, and could not handle any more.
