For the record I think Brits and Yanks ought to swap slang whenever they see fit. I see nothing wrong or weird about this.

i'm bored out of my mind. i did everything i have to do at work today in an hour of being here. the only thing making life bearable is that i might get to meet, or at least be in the same room as audrey tatou later. |

The chap who lives next door to my sister is from the states, and the area they live in is pretty notorious for the thickness of the accent. He's forever trying to avoid saying 'bucks' and calls everyone 'mate', and it's as cringe-worthy as talking to one's mother about porn. |

Yeah, wasn't that line used by Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady? It's a good one, definitely. Dick Van Dyke's attempt at a cockney accent in Mary Poppins is, of course, legendarily adrift. One of the best American actors when it comes to nailing a London/South-Eastern/Thames estuary English accent is, believe it or not, Gwyneth Paltrow - which she perfected even before marrying Chris Martin. |

being a life long fan of hiphop i wish there was nothing wrong or weird about it. |
Why do you not do something seminal under your desk?
|
i'm too bored even to masturbate

Maybe if you paint little things like flowers or smileys on it you will revive the enthusiasm.

I don't know, but I listed one of his records this past week and I think it's going to get big money. That whole Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab UHQR box treatment seems to mean more to audiophiles than the actual music within. Or maybe these particular audiophiles really LOVE "Tea For The Tillerman." The last time I listed one of these, it went well over a hundred dollars, and I expect this one will do the same. (Yes, I am back in the Kollektible Rekords racket again, but this time for another friend who used to have a store. Not the same friend who used to have a store that I used to do this for. And only part time, and a lot closer to my house) |
Cat Stevens is hardly what I'd call seminal.
|
I read an interview of his not too long ago. He is back playing live gigs, isn't he?
|
Where? on the county fair circuit?
|
Actually, he played either the Royal Albert Hall or the Royal Festival Hall fairly recently, no small feat for someone who had slipped into semi-obscurity for a years.
|
is he still going by the name abdul mustaffa hafallafah?
|
I don't know. I really don't know. I don't know.
|
Well, Boyzone or Westlife covered one of his songs a year or two ago, so he's probably got a bit of a cult following in the 12-15 year age bracket these days. Either way, if Cat Stevens is now considered 'seminal' then God help the lot of us.
|
I don't think that he is a seminal artist.
|
you have to have been a groundbreaker, an original, an innovator to be seminal, you have to have been the touchstone for something greater
seminal metal band - black sabbath seminal punk bands - sex pistols, ramones seminal hardcore band - bad brains seminal rock (early) - chuck berry etc. cat stavens is not even a cum stain from a roadie on a groupie's upper lip. |
i used to live with a girl who was a bit of a prick and she started making a big meal about getting into cat stevens, about how she'd never done it and had been meaning to do it for ages and not to judge her for not having listened to him yet. i don't know where she'd got the idea that cat stevens was de riguer for the discerning connoisseur.
|
Well, this one seems to be up there for the discerning audiophile:

I don't validate this point of view try again:D |
Maybe dispise is too strong. But I don't like this band, I find them overrated.
It's my opinion, I can't change it for the moment, sorry !!! |

i'm sorry also but yr opinion was REFUSED  it was destroyed be more careful next time:fuckyou: |
Pixies are one of the most likeable bands ever.
|
So are my mate's band. Doesn't make them seminal, or even any good.
The Pixies' rise has always slightly baffled me. They came along at a time when far more interesting things were happening. You could always tell a Pixies fan at that time because, if they were blokes they looked like members of Buffalo Tom, and had girlfriends that looked like Kristin Hersh. Needless to say, if they were girls they looked like Kristin Hersh and had boyfriends that looked like members of Buffalo Tom. Weird but true. |

The reason the pixies are so highly regarded.. it's kinda like the misfits... EVERYONE, from metalheads to punks to goth kids, whatever, like the misfits.. I've noticed this about the pixies.. you don't necessarily have to be into early 90's alternative rock in order to appreciate the pixies. That's why they're so well-regarded: a wide VARIETY of people like them. You might be the biggest band in.. noise.. or something, but you're more "important" if only a few people like you from different sects of life than a bunch of the same people liking you.

Slipknot and Coldplay are seminal now? |
no.
|
the pixies, they just wrote very good songs.
|
good interweaving vocals, genius guitar player.

The Misfits are poo... and I have only ever met like 3 other people who have even heard of Pixies. |
Hmm... You must not know many people then... I think I have only ever met like 3 non-adult people who have not heard the Pixies. They're fairly huge.
|
i know a lot of people that don't know the pixies but anyone that i know that listens to or heard any sort of underground rock knows the pixies.
|
Yeah.. I mean, of the hundred plus people i've associated with, only about 3 dont' know who they are. I'm sure some random redneck guy has never heard them, but... I'd say a good 35% of the united states has at least HEARD OF the pixies..
