Yr paying for a DOOM show, not a Daniel Dumile show. DOOM is a character not a real person.
|
Besides, he's the fucking villain.
Anyway, have you guys heard unexpected guests? so sick |
Quote:
you are correct. UNEXPECTED GUESTS was a bit of a letdown for me. It's not BAD or anything, but honestly, I doubt that DOOM compiled it himself. I feel like I should have been in charge of the tracklist. :) |
Girl, you know it's true
Ooh-ooh-ooh I love you |
I'm pumped for the DOOM show. idgaf about anything else. I want the experience

e-high five, my friend. |
I recently picked up the herbs box set. I came across it at the record store had and read that it was limited to 7500 copies so I nabbed it. Does it contain all of the beats on all of the special herbs releases? the way the description was worded made it seem like it only had selected beats from all of them.

don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure it's all of them. BUT please note, that the tracks are mixed together, and shortened, and in some cases slightly remixed. I actually prefer listening to the individual albums separately. Probably because I bought each one as they came out and was already used to hearing them on their own... |
That's what I figured; that it contained most if not all of them albeit shortened. I'll probably still get all of the individual ones since I'm a fucking completists. I think I figured out which ones to get with the tracklisying overlapping in a lot of them.
|
9 + 0 is my favorite. It's actually amazing. It's one of my favorite Doom releases ever. After that, 5 & 6 is great. And 7 & 8. But get all of them.

Wait, so what exactly is the deal with DOOM having shows with other emcees wearing the mask? That shit's lame. I don't care how you try to sugarcoat it.
He's NOT the fucking Residents. He's NOT truly anonymous, and one of the best things about him is his voice. |
meh. I'm kind of done debating the whole thing. Here's the short version: if you buy tix to a DOOM show, you probably won't see DOOM. If yr okay with that then buy the tix. If yr not, then don't.
|
the Revolting Cocks did the same damn thing.
thank god I didn't go. |
Man, that was awesome. So many pissed off people. Supervillain did his job damn well tonight. After the awful opener finished around 9:45 or so, we had to wait close to 3 hours for DOOM to come out. They'd send someone on stage periodically to say shit like "his plane just landed" or "he'll be out in 15 (an hour before he went on)" and so on. Then when he finally came out after so many people walked out all pissed off, it was a DOOMposter for the first few minutes. Then the real (and yes I'm sure it was the real one) DOOM came out. He dominated the mic for a solid 20 minutes without taking a break, then he got some water. Went at it again for 2 songs. Then had "technical difficulties". Him and his hype man pretended they wanted to keep the crowd entertained while the DJ fixed his shit (when clearly nothing was broken). Finally everything was 'working' again, and he did one song then walked off. 15 minutes later he came back, did one last some and it was over.
So many people were pissed off. It was done so perfectly. People getting pissed is part of a DOOM show I think. The atmosphere, the rage, the drunk/high idiocy. I wouldn't have traded a minute of that show to be anywhere else in the world |
^this is what I was getting at. For vulv, it was money well spent. At this point, we should all know what to expect from a DOOM show. So spend (or don't) yr ticket money accordingly.
|
Yeah, I mean I fully get why people were pissed. Most people are casual fans at best, or even huge fans of the music but won't look past that. Every post I've made in this thread was serious. I was really excited about seeing what would happen. I didn't really care much to just hear him duplicate what I've heard on record before anyways. Truth be told, live hip hop can be really boring when it's done spot on.
This, however, was an experience. Not something I'll easily forget. (Also, people whining about him taking so long to get on stage are such babies. GZA took just as long when I saw him 2 years back.) |
I get it, he's a "villain". But that's just fucking stupid. I would be so pissed if I paid good money to see him, and he never showed up or faked technical difficulties in the middle of his set. Who does he think he is, Andy Kaufman?
I've heard the impostor thing before, but I thought it was just a one time deal. I've heard complaints at his shows that he doesn't move enough, because he's so focused on getting in every syllable...I wouldn't mind that at all. To see some of his verses in person would be breathtaking. Do the impostors lip sync to pre-recorded tracks or do you have to hear their shitty voices? |
lip syncing
|

I think that's the vibe he's going for. But think about it. If you had bee duped by Andy Kaufman, you'd be bragging about it. Not pissed. |
So, I seen there's MORE new doom. A live one and Doompostor according to http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/mf_doom
|

from what i understand mf doom is kind of a dick as a person, and if i went to see him play and he sent somebody else in his place i'd be fucking annoyed. |
Quote:
yes the live one is real. Doomposter was the working title for Born Like This. RYM is wrong. |
If I'm not mistaken one of Monsta Island Czars made a reference to Andy Kaufman reading the Great Gatsby
|
MIC rules. I have a lot of their shit. Escape From Monster Island obviously. The two Monsta Mixes by X-Ray, Megalon's album, Rodan's album, Gigan's EP, Kong's EP, Mechagodzilla's mixtape (nice guy!) and his album with 007, etc etc etc. I love that crew.
|
What ever happened to that album he was supposed to put out with Ghostface?
|
Quote:
Detox. Etc. |
I tried to find other music by MIC members, but it was a difficult task
|
yes it is. I have a lot. I'll look thru what I have and let you know. I also a Gigan EP. I'm sure there's more but I can't remember. They're a huge posse and most of them go by more than 1 name.
|
Yeah I seen that. They got got a monster name and their actual name too
|
yep. I'll tell you this though, Monster Mixes Vol 1 and 2 are both MUST HAVES. They were released by X-Ray, but really theyre mixtapes of the whole MIC. Think of them as followups to Escape From Monster Island.
ALSO the "Run The Sphere" single is AMAZING. I have no idea why it wasn't included on ESCAPE. |
Hell yeah brother! I just found Moster Mixes Vol 1 on soulseek
|
get ready to love it.
|
I recognized a few of the tracks off the Escape From Monsta Island LP. But, as whole the album was solid as a motherfucker. I loved the Doomsday Remix. thanks for recommendation.
|
that Doomsday remix samples Les Motherfucking Baxter!!! One of his tracks from the Hell's Belles Soundtrack. I love it.
|
I didn't know the sample, but it's always cool to pick them out. That's one of the reasons why I love Girl Talk
|
it blew my mind when I went thru this Les Baxter obsession in 2007, and I was like "holy shit! X-Ray sampled some exotica!"
|
I picked up the new MF live album. It's... okay. I haven't played them side-by-side to compare, but I'm pretty sure this might be the same performance that was used on the Monster Island Live mixtape which was semi-officially released in like 2005. If so, then I've already had this for years. Which is pretty lousy.
|
That sucks! you're just too much of super fan to enjoy new shit. (not new for you)
I thought I was a pretty big DOOM nerd till I came here. haha! I really want the album with Ghostface to come out.. Angels was sick and so was the one they put on GTA Chinatown wars |
yeah "Chinatown Wars" was ill. Better than "Angeles" even.
