I've read that there are quality control issues with Degen, or at least there were in earlier days - so maybe you've just been unlucky. Check out the reviews on eHam.net for the Degen De 1103: http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/4...5449d1ca46e932 The Sony's are nice - my biggest problem with the Sony ICF-SW7600GR, which by all accounts is a great radio, is that it doesn't have a tuning wheel! I just couldn't deal with that. I've found so many numbers stations and various oddities, by using my radios tuning wheel that I really couldn't live without it - buttons are no replacement </rediculously petty irk> Keep an eye out for the Grundig G3, which is coming in the next month or two. It's an evolution of the De 1103 -> Eton E5 -> Grundig G5, and it apparently features improved Single Side Band operation and Synchronous Detection, which can be a big help for reception on SW if it's implemented well. http://www.universal-radio.com/CATAL...able/4033.html |
Perhaps this article sheds some light on the ever buzzing enigma that is UVB-76
When the order comes it sends out a coded digital signal enabling "Perimeter" http://www.wired.com/politics/securi...urrentPage=all |
that's awesomely scary stuff.

It appears that the chaps and ladies over at GCHQ have decided to end their shortwave shenanigans.
The wonderful Linolnshire Poacher was cut off last year, but a month or so back, it appears that its Australasian sister station, Cherry Ripe, was cut too. It's a real shame, but I'm glad I have recordings of the latter - all the way from Ireland. I'll be throwing up a compilation in around a month, This may be the last - shortwave is dying a death right now. |
^^^ you are a top-contributor of one the best threads ever.
thank you and please don't forget to post the comp! |
cheers floating...
I have to disappear into the countryside to complete this compilation... I really want to grab a chinese or german station, but they're both enigmatic gits. Will post some kind of compilation here before the end of march - will probably be half an hour, you'll just have to suck it up! |
I'd be very interested in your compilation too, thanks.
I could listen for hours to that stuff (I once listened to all 4 Conet Project CDs in a row). |
I'd be up for a compilation too. You did a short-ish collage thing before that's been put on quite a few times round casa de Glice.

So, um, it took me more than a year to actually sit down and edit something together with 18 months of random shortwave recordings, but anyway, here it is:
http://www.archive.org/details/ShortwaveSnippets4 Usual warnings - bad/awful audio quality, transcoding and open mics... Runs ~30 minutes In memory of the sadly departed Cherry Ripe. |
yay! I was listening to the last one you uploaded just a few weeks ago and was wondering when I could hear more.
a thousand thank yous. |

This. |
Quick note to let you know as of March 1st - Mossad quit sending numbers, so no more Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Uniform Lima X-ray, etc etc.
Purely coincidental with the departure of Suleiman and Mubarak? Maybe one day we'll find out. |
