Funny you say that. It's one of my little "secrets" in writing. I like paragraphs with three sentences.

If I can't do three, I have to do odd numbers--1 sentence or 5, but never more than 7.

I used to do this for news briefs, too. It was one paragraph, 3, 5, and so on, even if it meant breaking up a paragraph.

It's an odd quirk of mine, but whenever I'm stuck on an article, on how to organize it, I look at its "numbers" and when I straighten out the sentence numbers, it starts lining up.

i just write until i feel like i've said what i need to say and when i'm revising i take out things that don't get the point across.

That's pretty much what I do, even when I start with an outline. When I start, it all goes to hell for a while and turns into a big mess, then comes out the other end of the tunnel all neat and orderly. But it's that rule of threes that helps me make order out of the chaos eventually.

whatever works works. i hated teachers making us do shit in an MLA format. WHO CARES HOW IT'S FORMATTED? format does not make or break the piece.

I know what you mean. MLA is the worst.

to make it all worse freshman year we had this cunt of an english teacher who bitched at me day in and day out to take my sunglasses off, and i told her "i'll take them off when you turn these lights out" because it was SO bright in her classroom. and we would just mess with her all the time because she got pissed off easily.

word on the format shyte...then after i get used to MLA, the next prof i had used CHicago style and i had to learn how to do that one...damn him

i was that much of a rebel always. but i didn't talk to anyone i didn't know if i didn't have to. in fact the only reason i met my boyfriend is because we had the same lunch period and he was friends with one of my friends and we'd all go out and smoke together.

Format is all so arbitrary, it's all based on whatever style guide you want to consider the authority. It's the kind of thing editors should know and use to ensure consistency in a publication, but it has nothing to do with meaningful content.

i carry around a little notebook with me sometimes and i just spew my thoughts on the paper..i write on the subway a lot. just about people i see and stuff..if i can get a seat. usually i don't bother organizing any of that but some of it is indeed good writing. i make up stories about people i see.

That's cool. Back when I was doing my poetry thing, I tried making up poems from random parts of different conversations I'd overhear. Sometimes it worked.

i used to do that sometimes. it never worked out too well for me.
