She looks like a serial killer, funnily enough.

It's OK if you don't want to share. I was always pretty guarded about my homebrew recipes.

French press coffee with a dash of nutmeg. Learned just recently that I should be grinding the beans coarser for french press. And that it's good to stir the grounds with a chopstick before adding the plunger.

Anyway, it's good stuff.

knox 12.06.2009 12:30 PM

i hate plunger coffee.

and no, i can't make pizza dough myself. i think, all i have is a regular oven so, it'd be pointless.

Because with plunger and filter coffee people tend to put too much water, because when the water stays in contact with coffee powder for more than a few seconds more caffeine is released into the water, which makes the coffee more bitter, less fragant and more irritating to the stomach.

I think the best way to prepare coffee is espresso. At home, you can use this:

Hmm. I'm willing to try it. How much it cost and where I get?

gmku 12.06.2009 06:56 PM

Thanks. There's a Williams and Sonoma nearby. And a Target. Between the two of them, I should find it.

nicfit 12.06.2009 06:57 PM

buy a Bialetti moka!
and use this:

gmku 12.06.2009 06:57 PM

Ok.

knox 12.06.2009 07:11 PM

when you buy that thing you gotta be careful in the kitchen otherwise it spills all over, once it's ready it sort of makes this sound and it is ready, no point in letting it get bitter.

the coffee is pretty strong, so you dont need a lot of coffee powder, its actually very economic.

i would not recommend trying to make lattes with that coffee, since the taste is really strong, but i dont like lattes anyway so.

artsygrrl 12.06.2009 08:55 PM

Serial killers are both strangely appealing yet repulsive to me. Maybe because growing up Catholic we became very familiar with martyrs and their ghastly deaths. We loved to collect Holy Cards depicting the worst of the worst.
I guess in a weird way that could have something to do with my interest in serial killers and the way they operate.
Yeah, and for Halloween this year I was Polly Nichols and my bf was Jack the Ripper.

artsygrrl 12.06.2009 08:58 PM

...and, I had a great Friday. Spent $300 on shoes and boots.

Dead-Air 12.06.2009 09:01 PM

Saturday rocked all over Friday. Friday wasn't bad though.

so you just learned recently, the two most basic and important parts of the simplest coffee preparation?

lol

it goes without saying, but so do the other things you missed so here's a tip, the water should be fairly hot

Yeah. I'd never wanted to use a french press until recently. How is that funny exactly?

demonrail666 12.07.2009 08:31 AM

You seriously haven't wanted to use a french press before now? that's fucking hilarious!

gmku 12.07.2009 08:33 AM

Yeh, I was always too focused on the french kiss. Go figure.

& watch yr step or I'll neg rep you too.

demonrail666 12.07.2009 08:44 AM

neg rep me all you like, it won't change the fact that until now you'd never considered using a french press.

wellcharge 12.07.2009 09:15 AM

ok so you bought something and didn't think to figure out how it works, yes that is funny, especially considering an infant can do it. you wouldn't do that with a motorcycle, so if the danger of cracking yr skull will deter you,the danger of bad coffee, while smaller should be of some deterrence. you are frequently trying to sound fancy when talking about food and drink so maybe you should live up to it. there's like 3 steps with a press, put the COARSE grounds in that won't make it through the net, put the hot water in,stir it and wait to press the thing down.

really there's two things to know about that press and you didn't know either one of them. god forbid you ever try a coffee preparation method that requires any care. look man, i'm stupid as fuck and i can make a coffee without messing up every step of the process
