If we're all picking any label we want them on, I'll go with Warp. That would fuck shit up.

drrrtyboots 08.26.2008 11:50 PM

I still pick Def Jam.

I mean c'mon, Thurston would totally sit up on Jay-Z's lap and wish for a nice record deal come Christmas season.

Haha.

I dunno if they're ripoffs, but there's definitely a lot with the same... DNA (pun intended).

Watch, sonic youth gets put on skin graft, sells less records than any of the other bands on the roster. It could happen!

mil_pl 08.27.2008 04:50 AM

it will be probably 'domino' as thurston said.

atsonicpark 08.27.2008 04:54 AM

well I don't like Dominos!!!!!!!!

They never do what I want them to do like that cool clip on youtube of the dominos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111111111 111111111111111111111111111

atsonicpark 08.27.2008 05:06 AM

Nah.

SYRFox 08.27.2008 05:08 AM

Oh Sonic Youth on Warp would be really awesome. Doubt that'll happen though

auto-aim 08.27.2008 06:14 AM

It'll be Geffin

xl seems the obvious choice...

maybe they will ressurect sst! "sisters there"

Rob Instigator 08.27.2008 08:53 AM

I want the next album to be 3/4 LEE traxx, rocking the way he does, with melodic vocals and beautiful lyrics and skronk supreme underneath and a couple like hoarfrost and shit abut lee needs to release a solo record of the songs we Ll know he has in him damnit!

and hell yeah pitchfork trolls this forum for story ideas!

pantophobia 08.27.2008 09:04 AM

SY are certainly looking for a label with some pull, Domino if they are the top contender have some pull, they have been able to get Animal Collective on tv, but Sub Pop and Merge have also had their roster get tv exposure in the last 2 years

and they also want some promotion, Geffen gave maybe at most 3 shits about promoting them in the last 10 years, hence that Thurston line about their last 4 or 5 albums being compromised, they don't want any label meddling (although on the indie level who'd ave the gall to even ask them to do a drum and bass album?) and must reiterate they want promotion and as much as they can get

i always thought the Matador talk was a little offputting, they have been with Cosloy on Homestead, and there was some lingering tension after (mostly on Cosloy's part), so he likes them and would be easier to work with now, not sure if he'd want to go through that again

other then that i am not sure, it'll be a NYC based label for sure though

This made me listen to some Lee songs. Oh god he is awesome, haven't heard it in a while.

pbradley 08.27.2008 02:34 PM

Ha ha ha, A Thousand Leaves and Sonic Nurse was compromised saith the Moore. The NYC Ghosts + Flowers last.fm group sheds a tear.

Wallis 08.27.2008 02:53 PM

diskaholic-anonymous 08.27.2008 04:59 PM

meditation:
if sonic youth can go to hell why hell can go to sonic youth? but hell it's a very hot place to go...so better put some hell in SY guitars and make a awsome album, this it's official.

batreleaser 08.27.2008 05:28 PM

im surprised at his dissapointment in the last 5 albums. especially when theres something like murray street, which to me was thier best full length since ddn, and nyc g and f, which is definitley one of thier most experimental full lengths.

Don't mind her, welcome to the board.

Maybe they will try to reconnect with the youngsters and record a very "brutal" metal core album.

That'd be great.
Or a speed metal album.

Well, thats not that rediculous really. Frequent Thurston's ebay account and it's apparent his interests in black metal are really becoming important, maybe it is time for a heavier SY album...

I still wonder how he feels about the whole racism aspect.

dazedcola 08.27.2008 08:24 PM

This news gets me really excited about the new sy album. I've been starving for SY to get more experimental on their albums for a while lately, RR wasnt even an apetizer portion.

Now that SY will be back on an indie label do you guys think the new one will be an extreme reaction against RR with some no wave guitar and dissonance all around ? I sure hope so.

scott v 08.27.2008 08:38 PM

Why wouldn't it be on Ecstatic Peace/Universal is the question i'm thinking?

Like alot of extreme metal fans I know, I imagine he trys to brush to aside and appreciate the music for what it is. That said, Burzum and Absurb's acts will always taint the genre to outsiders.
