I think it fits with the album's theme about social media/the internet. things people post are kind of the "autotune" of their lives if that makes any sense. |
i listened to all of it last night and liked it, so i will keep listening to it for the foreseeable.
i don't really care about its "meaning and significance" really. the lyrics are goofy and fun. but i wasn't listening for words. i have books for that, hahaha. the entire sound though, i liked it. i like it more as an album than as singles. i like the entire run of the thing more than "songs" and this is nothing like nin with its nearly relentless industrial rhythms and nerd pain. not saying there's anything wrong with nerd pain or industrial music of the 80s, it's just a very different thing kim's record is horny, playful, and relaxed. a totally different mood than early reznor. that's what it is "about" (for me anyway). kim is having a good time here. there is nothing tortured or miserable about it. it's pure play. even the jordan peterson support bit is a hilarious mockery (unlike the humorless peterson and his youtube sermons) also i concur that it's absolute idiocy from some paid newspaper reviewer to request less noise here. i can't even... well the guardian will not see any money from me if this is what they have to offer as "criticism". critics! demian morris go fuck yourself lololol. i'll throw you a penny if you go back to kindergarten and take your staccatos with you already. guardian picked the wrong writer for this assignment--a clueless one with no idea of who he was writing about |

"Pussyriot, Pussy Gallore" has to be one of my favorite lines from the whole album |

Auto-tune and great music/art are two things mutually exclusive to one another because I have not heard a decent single song in 25 years featuring it's helium pitched whiny-warble. It's used by the likes of Kanye West and other artists Kim's producer makes beats for like Lil Yachty. You are not wrong, In Kim's hands the instrument could have been something better, similar to guitar for example: guitars sound shit in most hands but alt-tune them and put them in the right hands and they become something else. Auto-tune unfortunately is just that, always in tune and sounds the same no matter who is using it. That could be Kanye singing the chorus' on Kim's record for all I know. So yes, using auto-tune as a way to gate-keep my own listening habit works. To the NIN denialists: for clarity here is a convenient link and if you can't hear the similarity within 5 seconds then I do not know what to tell you. Git gud or something lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ32GjG7j Maybe I'm being a little too harsh on NIN, I should give them credit where it's due: as far as I'm aware they have never used Auto-tune :( |

Came here for this... So glad and looking forward to it! |
Atari! Man! So glad you posted here!

I love the album. Kim is definitely bringing in most interesting stuff from all the Sonics at the moment. Synths plus noise guitars. Man. Noise Trap in full swing. The Believers is such a cool tune. I will sample that cool middle section big time! Fair play to you Kim.

I agree with pretty much everything you've said but I had to laugh at this bit. And I thought it was a pretty neat record; while it's not pushing into any new ground in an overall sense, it's definitely somewhere she hasn't taken her artistic muse before and it's great to see that she's in a mood to keep going out of her comfort zone. Now, the challenge is to see which 20yo Soundcloud producer gets her as a feature first - and which of us will actually listen to contemporary music like that ;) |

Do we have to? I mean, it's cool if you like Coltrane's "My Favorite Things" but not The Sound Of Music, you follow. |

Hey, I'm swiping at myself here - most of the music I listen to came out before I was born! Every year I say that this time I'll keep up with new releases, but it never happens... |
this has been in heavy rotation. i like it a lot! it feels like it has more of kim's imprint than no home record, which i liked as well but will have to revisit.

Her favorite was one of the first SY songs I listened to, and what really got me in the band! esp when its the part where it's just the drum tappy taps and the guitar feedback, it's almost euphoric ! |
