cool! yeah, Stefano Giovannini did some great job photographing the band.
it is a pitty about meeting up with Steve never worked out, who participated on a lot of his solo stuff. ah well. |
Hey Nick. Frances Bean Cobain and her clique totally stopped by for open mic night in a cafe in my hometown yesterday evening. It was her Elders concern that I chapperone the evening during our improv practice session so her and her friends felt safe and relaxed in a 'small' town. Haha. What a megaloplotan considers a small town these days and what a peasant calls a suburb is literally 'resentment' and that is our common ground.
I'm in like flint with you too buddy. It's over. We're pros and peers in the digital music anomaly. The entire message board is a studio and university starbucks!! Cheers! |

There was almost always someone else to plug the gap so in the end, what the hey, it was a shame but not critical. He's not much of a fan of email and we couldn't synch up. Hey, PLips, you win on the celeb-spotting front - that's pretty cool. I live in Bristol, U.K. so not so many children of rock icons strolling in. |

Same 'ere my lover! You doing a book launch? I think it's a great idea - though SY had been the mothership, they've all done so much work outside the group this kind of appraisal makes a lot of sense to me. Thurston in particular seems to have done loads of work in tying together these disparate underground scenes together. |

By the way, I think this is the best piece of artwork you've ever posted. Very well done. Looks a bit more like an angelic Kurt and Courtney than Thurston and Kim. Am I right? |
Heh! Might be a launch in London. But if you see me around in Bristol definitely just say hi!

Yeah it's Courtney Kurt and Frances. Totally East Coast West Coast noise grunge balance though with Kim Thurston and Coco. The Chinese Columbia of the Pacific Northwest is Called 'Fu Sang' and unless you were made privy to that you would never know what the true inspiration for this drawing is, As you just have. |
Looking forward to this book.

Received the first copy of the Thurston book in the post yesterday - hope the true fans'll be pleased with it (and definitely always up for views and improvements too!) |
I got the book yesterday and haven't started reading it properly yet but having a quick flick through I can see that I love it already. It's nice to see quite a few gigs I've been to mentioned in this book. Can't wait to read it all. Good work Nick!

Delighted to hear it Stu - hope it works for you. I'm very sure the discography might be missing something - clues welcomed for my private 'obsessive collector' file. I only noted the first time something appeared: no 'DJ singles', no reissues, no alternative pressings, etc. Anything you can see isn't in definitely holler - I've got an XLS version if it's useful to anyone...? |
cool. nice to hear that Stu! so where can i order it?

U.S. specific edition out in August but postage from U.K. not very much at all. Two options offered via publisher's website or just order into local bookshop. |

Seconded. The comprehensive discography alone is worth the price of admission. Add to that the breadth of the interviewees, and (on first impressions) this book is both a thoroughly constructed piece of work, and something which is reflective of the inclusivity which has always been a central tenet of SY. |
YAH WELL THIS IS ALL VERY NIFTY but the problem is after I read it (shit, while I'm reading it) I'll begin hunting some (or a lot) of these titles like a possessed hellhound and I don't even have enough money for a subway ride. Especially after last night I blew my last $90 on Sleater-Kinney's 20th Anniversary Dig Me Out Bundle. (Wanna have it? Forget it. I got on the action IMMEDIATELY after receiving the e-mail alert and shit flew off the shelves SO fast that right after I paid I re-checked and everything was sold out LAMF).
Lots of love to NickSoulsby, though. :D |

Dude! How do you think it went for me?! :) Researching this I spent so much money it's untrue... I keep meaning to write up something about the best stuff I hadn't seen before (I think the Blindfold tape would certainly be on there...) |

I'm probably being real dumb here, but who's David Keay? |

Replaced the original drummer in The Coachmen and went on to play with Thurston in a number of pre-SY entities as well as playing in early variations of what became Sonic Youth. |
