unfortunately, i think the master tapes for sister were recorded over when they did that monstrosity experimental jetset trash and no star.

and for fuck's sake, people, you can still find the albums even if they're out of print.

Yeah i know the story but i still don't believe that there aren't some tapes doing the rounds somewhere.

Please stop using that ridiculous term.

The whole thing with re-issues of back catalogue albums is that they rarely have in mind the fan but more the casual listener who might feel attracted into buying more from the same band. This is all fine as it is the crude and unescapable law of commerce but what bugs me with these deluxe editions is that they could have sold the rarities disc separetly which would have made some difference to the wallet without me having to buy an album that i have in every shape and form already.Everyone is free to make a few bucks the way the want but at least they could try and be more creative while targetting their buyers.

I don't do downloading, I like those shiny silver discs. And I know that the Masterdik b-side was put out with tongue in cheek, I remember full well listening to it when it came out and being unable to understand what the fuck was going on, but it is still a part of SY's history, I would like to see it on CD.

Please, don't be too literal about my use of the word "need". I still use the word in the same way as I did when I was three years old and wanted a new toy.

download it. sonic youth approves.

Opinions are opinions and we all have them.If a record is scarce though i'd say,yes,re-issue it regardless of its quality.

sun city girl 11.24.2006 07:22 AM

isn't this thread about those expanded editions, dirty and goo has been released, what next? i said daydream nation because i think that would be really cool, and then work from there backwards. from the 90's washing machine would be interesting too.

sonicl 11.24.2006 07:42 AM

So should all things that have been released as bootlegs automatically not be given some sort of an official release then?

i think there's this one sequence on master-dik b-side that totally rules...
Ringo/He's On Fire/Florida Oil Drums/Westminster Chimes

i think this could have been a perfect companion to the white(y) album "deluxe" reissue.

sonicl 11.24.2006 07:57 AM

If there is ever a Sister deluxe issue, I suspect that will be when the Masterdik b-side will find its way onto CD.

yeah, fair enough, since master-dik was the cd bonus track there.

if they ever make such an edition i hope they have the original artwork there...

sonicl 11.24.2006 10:06 AM

Do you feel that the Goo Demos should not have been released as part of the Goo deluxe reissue?

There is very little by Sonic Youth that I haven't heard, swa(y). I started collecting their stuff while you were still potty training.

I heard TV Shit when I bought it upon its original release.
This is why I returned it the next day.
I'm a huge fan and everything, but I know when something is less than essential.

blastscenealibi 11.25.2006 05:51 PM

Actually, I would like to see the Evol Tour Film released before any re-issues.

To be honest, even though I love the wierd releases, this ep is pretty boring. 11 minutes of "NOOOOO NOOO NOOOO NOOOOO" and some country song = not listened to much. I got it off ebay with two other singles, so I don't mind. (3$ for three singles = satisfied me).

PAULYBEE2656 11.25.2006 07:41 PM

master dik rerelease would be nice.................

Thanks alot for those wolf eyes downloads, but I downloaded them, and it won't let me play them!:(

CHOUT 11.26.2006 05:51 AM

sister. i read an interview with kim talking about how the rehearsal tapes of these songs were different and fucked up.. would love to hear them.

jon boy 11.26.2006 07:15 AM

to be honest i would be happy with just about any of them being re released.

tv shit isn't really that essential but it's nice to have, and eYe rulez!! and that stockhausen sleeve is funny.

Tokolosh 11.27.2006 07:13 AM

This would be nice.

lunberg 11.27.2006 02:44 PM

They should rerecord Sister, I'm surprised how much of it sounds so much better live : Kotton Krown (Paradisio 2002) and Schizophrenia are some of the songs that are really nicer in the live version i've heard, particularly because the recording doesn't achieve a good balance between guitars and the bass. The same goes for Evol, I don't like that 80ish drum sound (echo) : it seems to have been recorded in a train station. Again I don't like the record version of Tom Violence, but its a top pick live for me.

SYRFox 11.27.2006 04:02 PM

I'd really enjoy to hear Bad Moon Rising Deluxe, even if I don't think there's a lot of rehearsals/out-takes from this era... But Bad Moon Rising is by far my favorite SY album...

what what what?
the production of sister is half the charm!

hirsute_biped 11.27.2006 08:46 PM

1. they recorded "jet set" over the "sister" master?! really? holy shit, what a stupid move! on a level of tragedy equal to all the early jam tapes they stored in the back of their amps getting erased by the proximity of the speaker magnets...

2. what is the EVOL tour film? never heard of.

i was kind of unclear about this, but they have stated that they made tape edits of jams for the thousand leaves album. were these issued on SYR 1 & 2, or were those tracks the jams from whence the tape edits were made? obviosly "mioux: de corrosion" is edited. would be curious to hear more of these jams, as well as the edited versions they then "learned" the songs from. (i think the sessions at west 54th interview was when they talk about this). sonique concrete`!

i think they should do daydream next, and continue back in order, digging out tons of rare nuggets along the way, and simultaneously continue with the "destroyed room" concept. more more more!

it was dissapointing how the sonic death fan club thing fizzled out. i guess SYR is sonic death-phase 2?
