I can't find anything by Ian McCullough. I think he does a wide variety of styles. I remember seeing a couple in an art magazine several years ago that were good.

There were a few Kurt Cobain drawings published in Rolling Stone that were really like a Basquiat-type of style, but I can't locate those on the netknob either.

Art was actually Lennon's first love. He began drawing long before he had a guitar. He attended the prestigious Liverpool Art Institute for three years (1957-1960) before the Beatles became a full-time occupation. He continued to draw throughout his life. Johns primary medium was line drawing either in pen, pencil, or Japanese sumi ink. His drawings became illustrations for three best selling books that he wrote in the 60's. In addition, a complete suite of the "Bag One" portfolio of lithographs is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His original drawings are also being collected by museums throughout the world.

My aunt bought me his book of paintings for Christmas a few years back.

You can look at more of Jad Fair's stuff here at his site http://www.jadfair.org/

Norma J 10.11.2006 12:12 AM

I'd never seen any of McCartney's paintings. I like them.

krastian 10.11.2006 12:31 AM

Some are really good and some are so so.....those were 4 of my favorites.

Anybody else notice all the Matisse influence in Daniel Johnston's figures?

Cantankerous 10.11.2006 12:31 AM

A lot of people rip off anime. It's such an overused (and overrated) style.

atari 2600 10.11.2006 03:06 PM

Marvelous display of sense and good taste, thank you.

people tend overlook the fact that japanese cartoons, in a lot of cases, are good because of engaging, well-thoughtout stories paired with awesome drawing and design...it's not just big eyed and pointy drawings.

Norma J 10.11.2006 09:10 PM

You don't even know if them dudes are fans of anime. That's speculation. There is significant differences. Nonetheless, they're still awesome works. I personally am not a fan of anime.

who ever question if they were fans or not? for all i know, they could be idiots who search for images in google and base themselves on those to make their own shit or be hardcore manga collectors. in one hand, there's nothing wrong with liking an aesthetic of something alone, but on the other hand, all i stated was that they ripped off anime's style like many others do. i made a general statement about people paying more attention to the look of japanese cartoons alone instead of really looking into the whole package, but fuck if i care.

for someone who doesn't like anime, you show a lot of enthusiasm for anime-inspired art.

Again, you don't know if they were inspired by anime, let alone 'rip it off'. Pasillas' work is very 'anime', but I wouldn't give that title to Boyds work. Both talented guys nonetheless.

Norma,
Every-N,

We're forgetting the most important thing.

Incubus are terrible.
