ditto. in fact, im listening to a Kraftwerk song right now.

Glice 09.10.2006 06:47 PM

House and Techno aren't bedroom music. That's the first mistake everyone makes, especially rock kids. Because, erm, rock music is music for the bedroom, for the headphones.

House and Techno don't make sense until you're gurning your tits off wearing luminous clothes, freezing your balls of in a field in the middle of winter, cadging fags off strangers and buying water at a million times the reasonable price.

k-krack 09.10.2006 06:49 PM

that sounds like an absolute blast, Glice!

Glice 09.10.2006 06:51 PM

It is. I swear to you it is.

And don't get me started on Happy Hardcore....

k-krack 09.10.2006 06:53 PM

no such thing!

you can get alot out of music. but emo and nu-metal is the most processed.
all you can get out of that stuff is drama and hate

Norma J 09.10.2006 08:44 PM

I hate music that is demeening. Music that has no soul. Music that is manufactured and made meerly to sell and to make money. Other than that I'm fine anything, whether I dig the music or not. But if I had to choose, the music I really find nothing valuable in, is rave music. Rave as in techno, the music they play at raves etc. I find nothing of worth or value in this. To me it's monotonous and is devoid of any real talent or skill.

Norma J 09.10.2006 08:50 PM

I think the possibility of 'emo' music had it's chance to be beautiful. The problem is most of the bands don't really understand melody and are too focused on image. 'Emo' music has nothing really to do with anger or sadness - alot of it, if not 99%, lacks any lyrical substance what so ever and is more about appealing to young girls. The others who try to make it sad, just come off as funny as you know they're happy as Larry.

I like pretty much everything besides opera, modern country, most disco (I like ELO), screamo, polka, most folk music, and harsh noise.

porkmarras 09.11.2006 01:26 AM

Most disco(i like ELO)????Whaaaaa?

Tokolosh 09.11.2006 02:23 AM

I don't like Ska, Trance (or anything close to it), R&B.

Neko Case should be dead.

The only reason I do not kill her myself is because she is such an excellent nexus for my vast well of hatred.

I hate her. She is the embodiment of all that is evil in the modern world. The harbinger of a musical apocalypse. My most sincere wish is that she is run down in the street by a schoolbus of Catholic glee clubbers.

Die, Neko. Die.

That is all.

Oh, and I second Glice's post, with nothing more valuable to contribute.

jon boy 09.11.2006 02:28 AM

i hate emo and pretty much all hardcore. i find it extremely predictable.

porkmarras 09.11.2006 02:43 AM

Ii've been known to listen to some Goa Trance. Is there something wrong with me?

jon boy 09.11.2006 02:45 AM

yes and no porky. it depends if you were under the influence of anything?

ska is pretty awful as well and dub can get annoying after a while.

Tokolosh 09.11.2006 02:47 AM

Goa used to be good in the mid 90's. I raved a lot on E listening to Eat static and Platypus records. I find it very boring to listen to it now. Maybe I need to take E again.

I love you for your venom. I'll not bother defending my darling Neko.

I'm astonished at the musical puritanism on this board.

Actually, I'm not, but I'd like to be. I honestly can't understand how any rock fan can claim any electronic music to be devoid of talent when the majority of rock music is no more complex than the third guitar lesson of a twelve-year-old.

This is probably the most patronising I'm ever going to be on this board, so here goes:

I know that it's not only people of a certain (young) age that display the kind of musical puritanism you mention, but I would suggest it mostly is.

I don't know about anybody else, but at a young age I had very specific ideas about what and who I liked and it would take quite some persuasion to shift me off my narrow-minded course.

Yes is does seem strange that somebody would dismiss whole genres, but I find myself being more and more open to new sounds and new artists, and I can't imagine dismissing anything out of hand.

I could go on, but you get the point.

Glice 09.11.2006 08:14 AM

Oh yeah, I was pretty much the same for a while. I was a bit embarassed about enjoying Queen and Erasure and stuff like that.

Some people never get out of that though, do they? I know people in their 30's who still won't listen to anything but American punk.

Onani Nic 09.11.2006 08:34 AM

When watching Video Hits (or similar programs) I can tolerate a great deal of the rap, R'n'B and Pop music but its the rock music I can't stand. At least the rap music and RnB are trying to be the most crunk, fresh or bangin. Popular rock music trys to sound as middle-of-the-road as possible.

same here...

that's a good descriptive answer. add house music to the list.

groovebox djs will tell you it takes talent, Norma J. I've known several that are good musicians that do the dj thing to make money & they say it's complex to keep the arrangements & beats all in your head, so you're counting all the time to yourself to keep it all in order. do i think that's talent? like you, no, no, i do not.

porkmarras 09.11.2006 08:50 AM

I generally have time and patience for all sort of music but i grew to dislike or have less and less patience for rock/indie whatever. It's not something that bothers me or anything and if something comes along that i enjoy i will grab it and give it a good listen but there is very little that can still be done with the guitar and that's being done by the few out there who are gifted musicians.I'm not too keen on singer-songwriters either as the term itself makes me run for the nearest hill but i grew up listening to all sort of music(and not just rock/pop whatever) so if someone surprises, who am to say no?

porkmarras 09.11.2006 08:52 AM

Beck is a sometimes entertaining but mostly an annoying musician,by the way.

gmku 09.11.2006 09:14 AM

I'm not into hate.

gmku 09.11.2006 09:22 AM

& I've learned that I can never really dismiss a whole kind of music entirely. I've found there's something to like in almost every genre, and I've gotten into whole kinds of music that I once thought I'd never like. So I'm very careful not to say I hate any music--or anything, for that matter. The only thing I hate is hate itself.

king_buzzo 09.11.2006 10:23 AM

techno. its all the same. and folk music. and the stuff thats popular today

sonicl 09.11.2006 10:39 AM

"Songs from the musicals"-type shit - the Cameron Mackintosh / Andrew Lloyd Webber crap.

Anything that is little more than someone showing off their vocal range - Celion Dion, Mariah Carey.

The sort of stuff you hear drifting over from a couple of fields away when there's some travellers' festival in town - Ozric Tentacles comes immediately to mind.

"Soul" music that has no soul - I don't think I need to start naming names.

porkmarras 09.11.2006 10:48 AM

I'm going to give you bad rep just for mentioning the Ozric Tentacles name and i bet that you are secret Levellers fan too!

Dutch club/house and Ibiza disco music with screaming bimbo's irritates the shit out of me.
