The Fool is getting the car test at the moment. I have nothing to lose with giving them a good chance.

yep i've caught the bug. Lovein' what i've seen so far. Gonna pick up the album when i get paid on tuesday (unless the world does end today)

Keeping It Simple 05.21.2011 07:36 AM

I've gone off them now. Such is the fickle nature of people.

I was briefly enamored of the tight trousers, but that can only last a certain amount of time, specially at my age

Torn Curtain 06.02.2011 04:19 PM

Those two pro-shot youtube vids (Undertow and Elephants at Coachella) block users from my country:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTUMGVX4xNE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qratx1RJBlQ

I've tried to use proxies with no result, could someone from the US (or maybe another country that isn't blocked) grab the FLV (through Keepvid for instance) in the best resolution and upload them for me ?

Thanks in advance :)

nicfit 06.02.2011 05:09 PM

sorry, can't help with the youtube thing (same problem), while waiting for help you could check this:

Ah yeah, thanks!

You must spread some reputation around blah blah...

hipster_bebop_junkie 06.03.2011 10:44 AM

Elitism sucks. I can't watch those youtube videos either. I have the Coachella show, downloaded it a while ago from the same site nicfit has linked to. Hopefully, not being able to watch those doesn't mean we are missing on something different.

Warpaint will be performing later today at NPR's World Cafe, starts airing at 2:00 PM EST, and you can check if there is a radio station available in your area that would broadcast this, if you live in the United States:
http://www.npr.org/templates/station...dule/?prgId=39
I don't know if any of those stations do webcasts, so i guess if no one is able to capture it from the airwaves, then we would have to hope MP3s will be uploaded at some point to NPR's website. Warpaint already did a short session at World Cafe in November of last year apparently, and it's available here:

Yeah...I think it's probably a matter of "rights" to show the taped stuff in different countries, not sure it is a proper form of elitism, even if results are pretty similar hehe.
I think there are a couple glitches (nothing too annoying) in the audioperv recording, the youtube ones, if properly edited, could have better bitrate (both sound an video) and possibly better resolution too.
We'll see, if someone will be willing to help us foreigners :D.

A few coachella "pro" vids are on vimeo too, not sure if those are better quality or simply "cut" from the audioperv vid or sumthin'.

there's also this:
http://vimeo.com/20922251

which is kinda interesting, if the link hasn't been posted here yet (I haven't followed the whole thread...)

SonicBebs 06.03.2011 02:36 PM

i was quite disapointed by the album. Thought it was pretty dull, but then shazam! it all fell into place. I didn't like the production at all but the mood of the album (once you understand it) is lovely

nicfit 06.03.2011 03:23 PM

I really think they sound waaaaaaaay better live somehow.

I agree (regarding the album The Fool especially - I think the [EDITED for correction] Exquisite Corpse E.P. is closer to their live sound, thanks to John Frusciante's mix maybe ?).

SonicBebs 06.03.2011 04:17 PM

yeah, live stuff on youtube was what got me hooked.

Yeah, i know restrictions of this kind have a lot to do with copyright issues most of the time. I was kind of just bitching, without dedicating any deep thoughts to the subject:).

That acoustic video is pretty nice. Proof that they do things well without over abusing their stash of pedals, as it has been implied before in this thread (the song "Baby", is also worth of mention regarding this point).

And yeah, i agree with you all on the Warpaint live vs. Warpaint on record debate (if there is any). I love both the "Exquisite Corpse" EP and "The Fool", but i also think pretty much all of the songs sound superior in any live performance than they do on the records. I'm looking forward to seeing them in September, maybe they'll even have a taste of new material that would end up on their next album (I'm daydreaming).

One thing about Warpaint i really dislike, is that their management and label (and possibly the band themselves?) don't seem to fully support the circulation of live recordings, or at least that's apparently the reason why those that were available at the recordingla blog had to be taken down. It would be a giant bummer if that policy ever extends to dimeadozen. Admittedly, i don't know the circumstances or exact reasons as to why they opposed the further distribution of the files that were in that blog (i guess if they were planning to release officially those specific shows, then it would have made sense), but i don't see the harm in taping and sharing. In fact, i fell in love with this band after hearing recordings of this kind, and that pushed me to buy the official stuff. The way i see it, distribution of recordings of live shows are positive for musicians in a similar way as it is playing sessions for KCRW, NPR's World Cafe (today's session is now up), All Saints Basement (see nicfit's post), yourstru.ly, spinner and what have you; or having a handful of demos available for free at last.fm, for instance.

"WARPAINT" VIDEO PREMIERE

Warpaint has unveiled the music video for their eponymous single "Warpaint" today. The video was directed by Ted Newsome, who created a "vibrant, dreamy" underwater world. You can check out the video on NPR's "First Watch" in the US, and on VEVO in the UK and many other territories. Here's what the girls of Warpaint had to say of the video to NPR:

We've always had the idea to do a video underwater, and were excited when our friend Ted Newsome sent us a treatment, which involved just that. It was an opportunity to create a fantastical world where oxygen, time and style were simply not an issue. Turned out to be far more challenging than we had initially expected, but we pulled through. We're excited about it and hope you enjoy.

I've recently discovered a better shoegaze band called Foxtail Somersault; who hail from San Francisco.

Anyway, you were the one who initially said you wouldn't actually consider Warpaint a shoe-gaze band, did you change your mind?

No. But I totally agree with you that Foxtail Somersault sound more like a proper shoe-gaze band than Warpaint. I should've worded it: I've recently discovered a proper shoegaze band.

Apparently Foxtail Somersault are incurring in performing acoustically. This podcast contains a totally acoustic set somewhere, i thought i'd post a link for you in case you'd like to check it out, although i haven't bothered to listen to it myself:

I've been hearing some things about these gals. Just watched a video ("Shadow" I think?) this morning.

Definitely worth looking into. Interesting melodies.

However, they looked and acted so goddamn hipster I could barely stand it. I can just envision them all giving me dirty looks for ordering a coffee improperly at an SBC.

Link, please. I like to see backing proof when people have an opinion based on some evidence. I also would like to find out if i'm smart enough to properly judge somebody's character by watching them in a few minutes long youtube clip. Thanks.

Highlights of Warpaint's performance at Reading and Leeds Festival in the UK, are available to watch here (only for residents of First World countries, i assume):

Is anyone able to rip that and post it here? I'm only able to watch this vid of them performing "Undertow":

I discovered this band about month ago (they had a gig in Finland and after that the band was played in radio Helsinki). Yeah, altough there´s nothing that I have heard before they make very enjoyable music. I think it´s something between P.J Harvey and Siouxsie.

hipster_bebop_junkie 08.29.2011 11:02 PM

A recording of Warpaint's performance at Flow Festival in Helsinki on Friday, August 12th of 2011, is available to download here:
http://www.2shared.com/file/85Q7-Kzp...Fest_2011.html

It must be a capture of the gimmieindie webcast, although the .rar file does not include any info of any kind so its origin is uncertain. Not the greatest recording, there are better ones floating around but some completists might like it. Set-list consisted of "Bees", "Composure", "Undertow", "Burgundy", "Beetles", "Majesty", and "Elephants".
