It's actually quite fascinating reading people's lists. I never realised we had so many Nickleback fans here. A genuine eye-opener!
|
I hope you're kiddin' about Nickelback. Aren't you ?
|
...hahahaha.

Which makes the inclusion of EMF on your list all the more baffling! |
Liar !!!!
|
E - Ecstasy
M - Motherf****r motherf****r F - From Us to You E-M-F They were quite cool, really. |
I loved the way their keyboardist acted as rock and roll as possible whenever they were on TotP. There really is something rather hilarious about watching a man trying to be Pete Townsend while playing a Korg M1.
|
They made a really good LP. In all probability, that is precisely one really good LP more than I will ever make.

What a sobering thought, to recognise that EMF will have contributed more to the cultural landscape than most of us could even dream of. Even more depressing when one applies the same logic to a band like Ocean Colour Scene. Good lord, I just made myself shudder! |
Done. I know that two of my choices will get votes from others, and one of them will definitely be in the top ten.
|
w00t. done.
|
hahahaha, jesus jones.
james the band from the 90's is coming to mexico and people are going "no wai!!! it's awesome!!! best band ever!!" i wonder if they would be as hyped about, say, soul II soul or simply red as they are for james. |
A true story this: I used to play through a big fuck off bass cabinet in the 90s that was stolen from James (not by me, I hasten to add). It even had their name stencilled on the side. I actually loaned it to Lou Barlow during one of Sebadoh's UK tours, which sort of makes him an accessory to the crime too. Justice was eventually done I suppose when it caught fire during a rehearsal. Spooky but true.
|
looks like my inclusion of maudlin of the well and kayo dot won't be in the final 10
damn! |

oh ye of little faith!;) |
what is it with theft and bass amps/cabs?
i used to play through a stolen one, some dude stole it from his school, then some guy stole it from him and my ex-guitar player borrowed it, and i used to use it...wonder where it is right now. |
From what I've heard, there was a period around that time when just about every noise band in London was playing through gear stolen off of James. Must've had their lorry broken into at some point or something. Payback for writing bollocks like 'Sit Down', I suppose.
The funniest incident of gear theft I can recall took place during the Poll Tax riots, when loads of guitar shops on Denmark Street got looted. I never capitalised on it myself but do remember seeing some guy running down the street with a couple of lovely old guitars in his hands. The amount of two-bit punk bands suddenly playing vintage Rickenbackers on stage was a genuine feature of the London scene for a little while. |
Just a quick update saying that I've had loads of lists so far and that the top ten is REALLY tight. So if you haven't already done so, pm me your five!!!!

That's kind of my thoughts. I don't know how many people will have in common with me Knife Play and Myra Lee. |

hahahaha, this is so hilarious! ---- i bet my allowance loveless will be in the top 10. hey dr666, how about a top 50 instead? |
I'm gonna see how it goes in terms of how many people vote. At the moment I have about 50 lists but have found that once you get past say the top twenty you're dealing with albums that were only voted for by sometimes as little as two people - which is a bit pointless really. Twenty should work though.
|
Having to make it five was excruciating. I've carefully thought over my top 10 to represent everything I love in music (because I'm a massive nerd), and now I have to chop it in half! I still love you Pixies, Dylan, Boredoms, Beatles and My Bloody Valentine! Just you know. Not as much as the others.
|
Oh I forgot about Loveless. What a boring and dated record to be in anyone's top 5 but oh well.
|
Loveless isn't an album that I've ever had much interest in. I admire it for its impact, and certainly wouldn't call it a 'bad' album, but if anything it seems to have become even more popular over the years. Which, as Atsonicpark, says, is quite odd for an album that has, I agree, dated quite a lot since its release.
|
My thoughts exactly. I just don't find it very interesting except from a production standpoint. Certainly it's influential but a lot of those songs have always been pretty boring.
|
I have to say that I'm not a massive fan of Isn't Anything, either.
|
Just another reminder that, if you haven't already sent your top five in, the deadline is looming so get them in asap. I'm planning on posting the result around Tuesday or Wednesday, giving as many people a chance to participate as possible.
The list is now even tighter than ever so you really should vote if you can. |
yeah, i figured it get very random after a certain number, would be interested in the top 20.
and i don't care, loveless is one of my favorite albums ever although i didn't put it in my list. |
My predictions for what will be in the top ten:
Daydream Nation (as well as Sister or EVOL) The Stooges - Fun House The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico Joy Division - Unknow Pleasures or Closer My Bloody Valentine - Loveless |
I like isn't anything a LOT more. Not boring.
Also... I like Unknown Pleasures a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT more than Closer. Hmph. |

please dont let DayDream be number 1
and please let my list be Not Too Late |
Ugh, I was so confused by "best of all time." So really I cross referenced albums I appreciate existing in general against what I listen to most (as by last.fm's tracking). Anyways submitted.
