You start a thread about math rock and you don't even know what you're talking about. Are you mad?

atsonicpark 07.15.2008 08:14 AM

Dazzling Killmen were one of the most accomplished 1990s math rock bands, combining a punk-inspired noisy ruckus with jazzy Sun Ra-type intelligence and complex arrangements.

nah they are many degrees of separation between what i see/ hear as mathrock and dazzling killmen or even more so colossamite which are both kool bands in their own right.
For some reason, TO ME , mathrock is instrumental and not especially violent.

but once again music genres and subgenres are bullshit at the end of the day.

First you call Shellac, Paul Newman, June of 44 and Uzeda etc math rock, and then you call me a twat when I'm clearly being a CUNT to you. Now now.....

batreleaser 07.15.2008 08:27 AM

what the fuck is protonoise? like nihilist spasm band? no theyre just improv noise. the godz then? nope. explain, what is protonoise? i mean, if the music is noise, its gotta be noise, correct?

atsonicpark 07.15.2008 08:42 AM

"proto" is an interesting term at least.

Rob Instigator 07.15.2008 08:45 AM

stop making a twat of yourself
i explained myself on the Shellac mention (read the xhole thread)
Paul Newman yes of course, it's coherent
I didn't call June of 44 or Shipping News math rock bceause imo, they're not, Others did.
and well Uzeda or so related to Don Cab i had to mention it although you're right, the siniging is prominenet and well it's more noise rock than math if you ask me, but i would shelve Uzeda records right next to Don Cab and Bellini so yeah

cunt cunt

Luigi Russolo?

(in any case, if anyone is supposed to be described as protonoise, it should be in principle guys like him...)

greedrex 07.15.2008 09:33 AM

yes, i heard it for the Electric Eels and Rocket From The Tombs... and probably others...

you can add the proto- prefix to anything, but then probably comes endless discussions about what can be qualified as proto, who was first, etc...

Quote:

Etymology
From Ancient Greek πρωτο- (proto-), combination form of πρώτος (protos), “‘first’”), superlative of προ (pro), “‘before’”).

Prefix

proto-
  1. Used to make words in which it has the meaning "first".
  2. (linguistics) Used to form the name of the hypothetical ancestor of a family of languages.Proto-Indo-European is the ancestor of the Indo-European languages.

Putting the "gay" back in reggae.

Everyneurotic 07.15.2008 11:28 AM

snowing sun is a pretty good album. seems like it's missing something though.. the mix is really empty. didn't like their other album at all.

PAULY: yes, daemian frost is awesome!!

yes ive heard protopunk, but that makes more sense, because punk could not have ocurred before the kingsmen, mc5, stooges, the velvets, the godz, etc.. but noise is just noise, its sound as music. it cant be 'somewhat' noise, but it can be noisey, complicated idea. anyhow, noise just came about because people started experimenting with sound and atonality, there was no proto noise.

yeah they have two LPs.
The last one u're talking about is objectively less interesting though quite good imo
BUT the first one, snowing sun, you gotta listen to IT now and come back here to say "woah, that was powerful".

atsonicpark 07.16.2008 04:31 AM

yeah snowing sun is reccomended, if not mindblowing or anything.

HECKLER SPRAY 07.16.2008 06:59 PM

I've just found what math rock is :

(Sorry)

greedrex 07.19.2008 04:37 PM

thanks to this thread
i discovered ahleuchatistas (epic) and thinking fellers union local 282 ( hey they sound like Polvo at time, woheee)
thaks to Pauly and Atsonic for bringing these two up

atsonicpark 07.19.2008 05:55 PM

no problem, thinking fellers and alchspgksgwk;g;ogks;k are both brilliant.

atsonicpark 07.19.2008 05:57 PM

OH, actually, ahleuchatistas reminds me a lot of a less crazy version of the band YOWIE.

YOWIE is by far the craziest "math rock" band you'll ever hear... um...
http://www.myspace.com/yowie

batreleaser 07.20.2008 04:17 AM

yes yowie is fantastic, as is a good number of the skin graft roster when it comes to noisey aggressive math rock. i would check out dazzling killmen and yowie next.

thinking fellers is one of of the best ever.
