I love some of Discharges stuff, a lot of random songs. Most stuff they've put out though is very similar.

I had tickets to see them in Montreal (whenever that was...) but the show was canceled for some reason unknown to me.

SuperCreep 06.03.2008 11:38 PM

I've only recently got into Crass a few months ago and I love them. My favorite is a toss-up between The Feeding of the 5000 or Stations of the Crass, though I've been leaning toward the former recently. I completed my collection with Yes Sir I Will two weeks ago. I'm actually pretty surprised how shunned that album is. I like it a lot better than Christ tbh.

uhler 06.04.2008 12:37 AM

i didn't know there were so many crass fans on this board. awesome.

EMMAh 06.04.2008 12:41 AM

I didn't know that either.

folks are often quick just to point out their politcal views...however...musically...that band was SO creative. they sorta had that no-wave (not that no wave was something they were ever actually even exposed to) vibe/mentality that you dont have to know how to play yr instruments correctly in order to do something creative with them.

yes...

i love crass.

According to that No-Wave book that Thurston did, Crass DID have exposure to no-wave, on an early NY visit.

batreleaser 06.04.2008 08:38 PM

i like crass, discharge, conflict, all that shit, a lot. to me those bands represent true punk rock much more than say the ramones and the sex pistols.

batreleaser 06.04.2008 08:42 PM

rduidementary peni, nasuea, subhumans, i mean, shit, crass influenced a lotta great bands. that early anarcho crusty punk is also possibly one of the biggest reasons we have grindcore. napalm death were all super into crust punk and anarcho punk, they were trying to make music like that but just played much louder and faster and ended up starting a news sub-genre.

mangajunky 06.04.2008 08:42 PM

ah - my teen years - you guys have me dusting off my vinyl.

THIS. I mean, those bands are okay, but not what I think of when I think of the real punk rock spirit you know?

Everyneurotic 06.04.2008 10:08 PM

who cares if they represent this or that? if it's good music to you, who gives a shit?

EMMAh 06.04.2008 11:48 PM

Yeah, go for what you like.

I hate defining things.

I can't speak for batreleaser, I just know that when I want to listen to punk, I'd rather reach for a Crass record than the Pistols or Ramones. Just personal preference, ya know? Those songs mean a hell of a lot more to me.

uhler 06.05.2008 02:55 AM

crass (and fugazi) represent, to me, a band that could sell hundreds of thousands of records without compromising their message and values. i love their music, but what makes them even more special is what they stood for, not just in their lyrics, but in their actions.

DNAINTHEDNA 06.05.2008 12:26 PM

i think fugazi's music hasnt aged well at all

it has for me.

DNAINTHEDNA 06.05.2008 01:03 PM

most of repeater and 13 songs sounds kind boring to me

uhler 06.05.2008 01:26 PM

yeah 13 songs has some boring songs on it, but repeater hasn't aged at all. still one of my favorite records by them.

dionysusundone 06.05.2008 04:33 PM

Repeater hasn't aged well?

What?

DNAINTHEDNA 06.05.2008 04:34 PM

i stand by it dude, album has got some really weak songs

jonathan 06.05.2008 04:43 PM

Repeater is definitely their best, but Fugazi is way overrated.

Everyneurotic 06.05.2008 04:48 PM

fugazi are boring yet hilarious.

not a total wash of a band but nothing too exciting either.

MellySingsDoom 06.05.2008 04:50 PM

I have a lot of time for Fugazi, but The Evens I find boring as hell. Mr MacKaye, if ye want to mix politics with damn fine music, check out The Ex (especially live).

demonrail666 06.05.2008 04:51 PM

D'ya know, I don't think I've ever actually heard a Fugazi record.

youre not missin too much

batreleaser 06.05.2008 06:25 PM

man, i dont get where the fugazi hatred over the last year has come about. 13 songs, repeater, steady diet of nothing, red medicine, and (especially) the arguement are all post-hardcore awesomeness. i love their hypnotic dub basslines with the hard rock riffs and the punk rock rhtyhyms and beats. 5 dollar shows? cant beat it.

batreleaser 06.05.2008 06:26 PM

and fuck the evens.

i dunno anyone who dislikes fugazi

Everyneurotic 06.05.2008 08:13 PM

every time i listen to fugazi, i itch to play minor threat and/or rites of spring.

same with iggy, i want to listen to the stooges.

same with the bad seeds, makes me want to listen to the birthday party.

Toilet & Bowels 06.06.2008 05:27 AM

i think a lot of their stuff hasn't aged so well, but some of their songs are still pretty awesome

fugazifan 06.06.2008 09:04 AM

13 songs is one of my favorite albums ever
crass are amazing. i need to hear more, i only have feedong of the 5000

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 04.24.2014 12:25 AM

So many punx I miss posting on this thread..

ann ashtray 04.24.2014 12:38 AM

I used to really enjoy Crass once upon a time. I still appreciate them from a poetic angle, and of course there was a lot of creativity going on. I just have little time for politics in my art these days. It's actually been like that for quite a while.

And Fugazi has always bored the living shit out of me. I can appreciate Dischord as a strong example of what an independent label can be, but still. Ian's just too damned preachy. It's a strange thing, turning to music as a means of hearing examples as to how one should think or should feel or live their lives....I've always used it as a tool to achieve the polar opposite. Not that, of course, using music for such things is terrible...just a strange thing I don't much identify with.

So anyway, there's a new Crassical Collection out, 7x2CD sets. Each album with lots of extras.

Skuj 04.25.2021 05:59 PM

I gave The Feeding Of The 5000 another spin this morning. Fuck, it's brilliant. There's not a boring second on it, imho. I'm very impressed with the variety of Crass. They were much more than a one-trick pony.
