pffffff... their last 3 albums are brilliant, and hold up to anything they've done in their whole career

get with the program

real_inhuman 03.22.2007 07:26 AM

Couple of song that should be on 2nd disc:
You Pose You Lose
Non-Metal Dude Wearing Metal Tee
I Am Right (Goofy Mix)
Silver Rocket (Take 6)
Within You Without You
Electricity
Computer Age
Burning Farm
Come And Smash Me Said The Boy With The Magic Penis
Magic Wand
Su Nioj
Broken Eye

As I know all of that song were released somewhere in 1989 and early 1990.
And of course maybe some more.

SYRFox 03.22.2007 11:04 AM

Maybe we could get ****, the Ciccone Youth outtake that appears on the Nothing Short Of Total War comp... I actually heard it and it's worth listen...

DAYDREAM NATION 2xCD/4XLP DELUXE EDITION AVAILABLE JUNE 12 FEATURING UNRELEASED LIVE MATERIAL AND RARE COVERS

Hailed by Rolling Stone as one of 'The 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time' and honored as one of the first 200 albums chosen by the Library of Congress to be included in the National Recording Registry for their historic, cultural or aesthetic importance, Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation will be issued by Geffen Records in a two-disc Deluxe Edition with bonus tracks, new liner notes, and unseen band photos on June 12, 2007 and on a super-special 4-disc vinyl set issued by the band's own Goofin' Records.

Disc One features the original 1988 album, remastered from the original tapes under the band's supervision, plus a bonus home demo of 'Eric's Trip.' The 'Live Daydream' Disc two, comprised largely of previously unreleased tracks, features 15 live tracks from the band's 'Daydream Nation' Tour. Culled from performances at several venues including hallowed grounds such as CBGB's in New York and The Paradiso in Amsterdam, 'Live Daydream' includes live versions of every song on the original album. Added to that are four studio bonuses: 'Within You, Without You,' from Sgt. Pepper Knew My Father - an NME-sponsored charity Beatles Tribute album, 'Computer Age' from the critically-acclaimed Neil Young tribute album The Bridge; 'Electricity' from the Captain Beefheart tribute album Fast And Bulbous, and a cover of Mudhoney's 'Touch Me, I'm Sick,' originally released as a Sub Pop single.

The bonus materials are an aural treat for the discerning aficionado and the casual listener alike, and provide new insight into an album widely considered to be Sonic Youth's watershed moment.

The live material will, I'm sure, be wonderful, and the demo version of Eric's Trip interesting, but, as with the previous deluxe editions, I'd have liked to see more interesting "bonus" tracks than a few cover versions. There must be other decent demo stuff out there, surely?

Jt 04.11.2007 06:42 AM

Same, same. The type of people that are going to buy this are probably already going to have most of the "bonus" tracks anyway. I'd love to have had a second disc of demos/alternate versions AND a few bonus tracks.

That said, the remastering job will be nice I'm sure, but... I don't know... is it just me who's always loved the EXACT sound of the album "as is" now? I mean they could make it louder I guess - that wouldn't hurt - but the balance between bass and treble and the mix itself I thought were ideal. The LP's great (though I rarely listen to that) and the Blast First/Mute CD reissue sounds the absolute bomb (not sure about the first pressing or the Geffen one - I've heard the Geffen CD sounds like shit?).

Washing Machine 04.11.2007 06:53 AM

and Jutta's Liner notes were amazing...

nicfit 04.11.2007 07:26 AM

My geffen DDN cd sounds quite BAD imo, this is the only remastered edition I'm waiting based on the "hope" of a better sounding cd. I loved both dirty and goo sound, asa matter of fact i have still to buy those deluxe editions (shame on me).

tesla69 04.11.2007 09:35 AM

my cassette of this died a decade ago - I've been waiting for the upgrade!

Moshe 04.11.2007 09:47 AM

I wonder why 4 tunna brix wasn't included.

sonicl 04.11.2007 09:50 AM

The "Speak No Evol" session was from the same period too, wasn't it? Maybe there will be a "Radio Sessions" CD to look forward to one day?

Chris Lawrence 04.11.2007 12:42 PM

cool shit! surprised by the amount of live stuff, but if they're including versions of every song (perhaps a lot of the 'earlier' june 88 versions w/ all the weird alt vocals and stuff), that's pretty cool. i know they were going thru a lot of tapes to find the best versions of stuff.

radio sessions disc has been rumored for 10+ years now, i hope it happens...

(and yeh, the DGC cd sounds like FUCKING SHIT)

guitarpro 04.11.2007 03:56 PM

Fuck yes bring it on

Moshe 04.13.2007 02:30 PM

That's a good point. Another reason for a purchase.

I'm on (I think) my third cassette and my second cd at the moment. I prefer the cassette.

Totally Trashed? What's that?

I kinda wish that the songs had been in order, but that can be fixed.

Chris Lawrence 04.14.2007 03:51 PM

i wonder if totally trashed isnt 'encore' from one of the earlier mix tapes...

Everyneurotic 04.14.2007 04:02 PM

lame!!!!

i'll get it just so i can finally listen if they intended the awful mix or if geffen screwed it up when they did the remasters.

they should have included a live show from the era, not a new one but oh well.

nin 04.14.2007 04:56 PM

I'm sooo excited for this vinyl to come. I'm just listening to the Dirty 4-LP set and it sound really great. Hope for as good mastering on this one too. Not bright and compressed like too much of todays music are.

hirsute_biped 04.14.2007 06:59 PM

i'm glad 4 tunna brix isn't on it, cuz A) i aleady have it, and B) it isn't a tiny fraction as good as DDN... however, i kinda wish there was more unheard/rare stuff; though i read somewhere on this board that they claim there just isn't much in the vault from this period. i bet the live stuff will be cool though...

fluxequalsrad 04.14.2007 07:37 PM

is it old live stuff? or new live -ddn?

Chris Lawrence 04.14.2007 07:49 PM

steve explains in the goo deluxe liners that they didn't do demos for 'daydream', just those june '88 shows. i'm guessing a lot of the songs on the reissue will be from those early gigs, cuz they're pretty fucked up---different lyrics, different melodies, thurston singing 'cross the breeze' etc... then again, the 11/5/88 'cross the breeze' was included on one of the last mix tapes, so maybe that's a contender?

the eric's trip demo sounds cool, i'm glad to have 4 of the better covers of this era included, and i'll have to hear the live stuff! i'm surprised not to see 'su nioj' or the forced exposure 7" explicitly included, but i'm sure everyone's thrilled not to have 'providence (mono)' occupy a spot. i don't think the radio stuff would've been appropriate for this release.

looking forward to all of this daydream shit this year!

Danny Himself 04.14.2007 07:51 PM

The thing I am most looking forward to is hearing how much SY's magicians have cleaned up the sound of the album. DGC's cd was awfully done so I can't wait for this. Hopefully I'll be able to hear things in the album I never heard before.

kingcoffee 04.15.2007 02:44 PM

Oh My Gawd......!!!!! I can't wait for this.

kingcoffee 04.15.2007 02:45 PM

Seriously, been waiting years for this to finally happen. Soon it will be in my grasps and I will have a brain orgasm listening to it.

kingcoffee 04.15.2007 02:55 PM

And I can't wait to hear the Beatles cover. Dying to hear it.
