2nd phaze is fucking ace and these people have completely convinced me that english(as oppose to british because it wouldn't make any sense in that case ) 'hip hop/grime/whatever you wanna call it' really doesn't need its american counterpart anymore in wichever way possible.I'm very exited by this because they are bringing in the goods like i haven't seen that happening before.

Is it too obvious a choice to say Wiley? Davinche I've yet to be impressed by, Jammer I've enjoyed. Can I be super-obvious and say Kano? Mitchell Brothers put on an ace DJ show when I seen 'em. Riko, anyone?

1xtra is a Godsend.

porkmarras 07.31.2006 01:01 PM

Mitchell Brothers are hit or miss for me.I haven't been impressed by what i've heard on record but i hear that they have to be experienced live to get the full extent.Kano is indeed fine in my notebook.

porkmarras 07.31.2006 01:02 PM

Riko i haven't heard yet.

So totally utterly word to the power of a million. I was banging on about how we seem to only get West coast American stuff over here when the East coast is generally oodles better. But whatever, Grime is the best proper actual scene to happen to England for ages. I've heard loads of stuff out of Manchester lately, that's generally ace. Next stop, Glasgow I reckon, followed by Bristol. Mark my words.

Toilet & Bowels 07.31.2006 01:04 PM

i'm a bit take it or leave it with kano, riko is fucking brilliant though.
i'll upload some riko too.

Bristol is the one place to always watch because out of the hat they spawn genius in spades without anyone seeming to see it coming. What i love about this more than the drum 'n bass or jungle scenes(wich i've found totally exiting)is that it' spreading really fast and it it hasn't got a tendency to ghettoize itself by nature.Only in England you could get such music that has no particular skin colour.

Yeah. Bristol is great. Not for a while though, I think we're due another explosion. There is an awful lot of gack around at the moment, but also a lot of greatness. I've not really been out on the dance scene for a while, I keep meaning to see where it's at. I'm currently enjoying a bit of a Jazz tip, which is surprisingly great.

Toilet & Bowels 07.31.2006 01:17 PM

i don't totally agree with that, grime is ghettoizing itself because the whole scene seems to be controlled by politics and disorganization.

porkmarras 07.31.2006 01:20 PM

Dance music is getting better and better in gay clubs too(and they keep on opening new ones every week).I think that The Ghetto might have really started something interesting there(as well as the old Rocktronica in Chinatown) because the music i'm hearing in clubs generally gets better by the week. It's almost like everyone got tired of the old litany of Kilye/Madonna/Robbie Williams and all hell broke loose.I've never felt like asking a DJ for what they are playing(did i fuck....)but i've started feeling compelled to do that now.

porkmarras 07.31.2006 01:22 PM

Club Motherfucker at the Garage is another one where they never fail to surprise me.

porkmarras 07.31.2006 01:23 PM

And Plastic People near where Toilet lives can be truly good when they want too.

To an extent. There is certainly a fringe of it that is involved in those politics and disorganization but a less obtuse fringe of it is dismantling things in order to prolong its life.

porkmarras 07.31.2006 01:30 PM

Mind you Madonna gets played enough a fucking lot in gay clubs but she now shares space with other interesting musicians.

Toilet & Bowels 07.31.2006 03:47 PM

why is that stuff is so popular with gays, marras? as the board's token gay man you explain it to me.

porkmarras 07.31.2006 04:02 PM

The allure of the glamour that most gays can only dream of.Is that good an answer Le Toilette?
