you hippies dont know shit about economics....and economics is the study of human behavior, which means you dont know shit about yourselves or anyone else.

davenotdead 07.09.2007 11:23 AM

"The substantivist position (of economic anthropology), first proposed by Karl Polanyi in his work The Great Transformation, argues that the term 'economics' has two meanings: the formal meaning refers to economics as the logic of rational action and decision-making, as rational choice between the alternative uses of limited (scarce) means. The second, substantive meaning, however, presupposes neither rational decision-making nor conditions of scarcity. It simply refers to study of how humans make a living from their social and natural environment."___from wiki

Thanks that is what I meant. Sorry for poor choice of words.

It's the worst economic system there is... except for all the other ones.

Because the rich get richer whilst the poor get poorer. Capitalism is about convenience and as a society, I beleive, convenience is not what we need right now.

you mean i don't need my 2am lardburger with extra-value fries and a monster-sized shake???

but free markets are nice though. really, think about it. you want government-issued soap? :D

Norma J 07.09.2007 06:55 PM

HAHA.

We as a society need to feed off eachother and be more concious of what we purchase. People don't even know why they buy what they buy or how it came about to be for them to buy whatever it be that they buy.

Just sayin'.

But what is sold in your country is soap that your government thinks it's suitable to wash your own testicles, anyway. Your point?:)

YEAH but that freedom of choice (more conscientiously etc) is a FREE MARKET choice. you see? you're proposing use of the market to advance social causes. i'm with you there. i (Try to) only buy products that meet non-sweatshop low-impact standards. i believe there are a lot of people like that. slowly, but it's working.

government monopolies are EEEEEVIL. more so perhaps than "big corporations" who still have to answer to consumers. think about it.

pbradley 07.09.2007 07:03 PM

I really don't have that big of a problem with capitalism as a theory as much as I have a problem with the size of the market. A larger market means more money made, more money made means a larger corporation, a larger corporation means a stronger drive for profit, a stronger drive for profit means a search for a larger market and all along this process righteous causes like environmental conservation and human rights are forgotten. When we fully realize globalization, what comes after that?

oh brother when we fully realize globalization we get GLOBAL LABOR UNIONS and the big machine won't be able to take it's sweatshop anywhere. nowadays you want to unionize and they take the plant to sri lanka. but when sri lanka is unionized and making living wages, oh, that's going to be maybe the day we finally see poverty end.

davenotdead 07.09.2007 08:53 PM

But it isn't studying us producing them. It's studying the effect those goods have on everyone and everything. You're a fucking retard.

davenotdead 07.09.2007 09:01 PM

No, its about the choices humans make...why does Susan buy this? If Susan had already bought 3 apples at full price, would she buy a 4th if I offered her 50% off? What about a 5th? How many could I offer her for free before she decides that she couldnt eat that many before they spoil?. Why does TopoTopo over in Africa have to walk 30 miles every day to get to work? Why does Laquisha work the streets every night? Why does Bush invade Iraq? ...don't boil econ down to three or four words that you think mean nothing to humanity...

HaydenAsche 07.09.2007 09:04 PM

I'm not gonna read that retarded post, retard.
